Just watched Blue Moon the new movie about Lorenz Hart set at the after party on the opening night of Oklahoma the then new musical by Hart’s former writing partner Richard Rodgers and his new writing partner Oscar Hammerstein II.
Ethan Hawke is excellent as Hart who Hammerstein said was the saddest man he ever met, the film too is quite sad as Lorenz Hart died not long after it is set from pneumonia, his alcoholism is blamed for his musical break up from Rodgers but the film portrays well the respect and gratitude that Richard Rodgers maintained for him.
Ethan Hawke also played Chet Baker another musical hero who made a living singing Rodgers & Hart tunes these are the versions that I love by Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennet not the Show Tunes that made Lorenz Hart famous all over the world.
Anyway it is well worth a watch if you have a spare couple of hours.
