BluRay audio and Oppo

Just wondering if anyone here uses an Oppo BDP103D as transport for audio BluRay. I see that so many new releases super deluxe editions come with BluRay. We have an Oppo ( Not connected to the system currently). What do you all use for playing these BluRay audio discs?

Many thanks

I have a 105 connected to my TV and from the TV to a Muso 2 via HDMI. That’s for video. Just this week I connected a budget Sony Blu-Ray to my NDX5S2 via SPDIF for my handful of Blu-Ray Audio discs. Without a monitor, I have to guess what buttons to push but for simple Pure Audio it seems to be the “center” button on the remote.

To get the Hi-Res digital signal from Blu-ray Players you have to use the HDMI output.

This is because the coaxial and optical digital outputs are limited to 16/48 due to Copyright Protection Rules.

If your DAC does not have an HDMI input you can get an HDMI De-Embedder which will extract the digital audio signal to either coaxial or optical for DAC input. I use a Blustream HD11AU for this purpose and it works perfectly up to 24/192 which is the highest I have on my Blu-ray discs and the sound quality is fantastic.

I previously used a Cambridge Audio Azur 752BD Standard Blu-ray Player and now use a Panasonic UB9000 and a UB820 which are both 4K Blu-ray Players.

Forgot about the limitation. But until I pulled the Sony from a closet, I had no way at all of playing my few Blu-Ray Audio discs on my main rig. (That’s why I have so few.)

I actually have a de-embedder, so maybe I’ll add that to the mix.

We have an Oppo 93 feeding HDMI to a Meridian 621/868.2.mm surround 5.1 system.

The HD621 works as both HDMI switch (6 to 1), and de-embedder.

It works well enough.

@MoonDrifter Thanks so much, I was thinking to output the Oppo to a Linn Selekt DSM, looks like I’ll need the de-embedder or the HDMI switching cartridge from Linn

Thanks again for the tip

I used a deembedder with an Oppo years ago. It worked but it was an extra device I didn’t want and looked a bit unsightly. Learning how to extract the audio from blu-ray discs allowed me to then stream directly to my Naim streamer, thus bypassing the Oppo altogether. There is a lot online about how to do it, you need MakeMKB and DVDAE.

I’ve looked at that. For the handful of Blu-Ray audio discs I have, it’s not worth the effort (or the price of a Blu-Ray computer drive). And I speak as someone who has ripped over 400 SACDs and about 20 DVD-As.

@Olik- Thanks , yes I use MakeMKV and Handbrake for DVD ripping to PLex, I’ll try DVD audio extractor as you suggest for the BluRay audio - Thanks again
