Bolero

That’s awful!

I notice that Dutton has just this month released a two disc SACD hybrid set of Boulez conducting Ravel (including a quadraphonic mix) using the same cover art. Strangely, the listed contents do not include Bolero, but if it interests you, I would contact Dutton to make sure the track listing is complete. (It seems insufficient for even two LPs.)

The version i have is Neeme jarvi with the Detroit symphony on cd,it is 14.11 minutes and i find it very very O.K definitly not to fast to my ears.

Dear Robert,

I had my first opportunity to listen to Folklore in full yesterday and four previous interruptions. I must say I enjoyed it very much for the reasons mentioned earlier.

  1. Gentle and soft oral distinction.
  2. Pleasent rhythmic style.
  3. Melodic tones.

Thank you for mentioning the other albums that are worth listening to. I will check Google for Best Records by Taylor Swift, compare this list for “Lover” and “Evermore”, and listen to them on iTunes.

Warm regards,

Mitch.

Stick to folklore / evermore.
Try TTPD (tortured poets department) anthology version.
I think you’ll have a surprise with speak now / reputation / red /1989 /lover. Even midnights.

Thank you, Robert. You have given me quite a list to start with. I will try to make a CD purchase once a month as I try to save for a Solti Wagner Ring Cycle. I still can not convince my dear wife to let me purchase an ND5XS2. It would be so much less expensive in the long run. Maybe a Christmas present I can treat myself to.

Don’t buy these. Nothing like folklore /evermore.
First 3 TS albums were country, then goes “pop”, folklore /evermore are “indie / folk” with a strong influence from Aaron Dessner from “The National “. Very much a departure. Then goes back to more pop with midnights.
By all means sample via iTunes but you’ll find songs like “me!” and “blank space” and “shake it off”.

Dear Robert,

Thank you for you for drawing my attention to this. My wallet is closed and I will heed your advice.

Well, the Amazon Marketplace supplier of my broken Boléro CD has said they have issued an “instant” refund. That was four days ago, obviously “instant” means something different in German! So another snotogram has been sent.

In the meantime, I’ve ordered it again from a different supplier.

Dear Suzy,

I had a refund from Amazon from a damaged item for my telescope. It does take a while for the refund to come through, but it does happen. I can not remember the length of delay; maybe four weeks to get my credit card.

Warm regards,

Mitch.

Ah, that’s a bit more promising. Good to know. Thx

Chill, @suzywong. In my experience these refunds usually take at least a week to go through

Yeah, I’ve given them a poke, and now received an email back, saying it’s in-hand.

And my new copy of the Boulez Conducts Ravel, Vol 2 CD has arrived and Bolero is currently playing as I type.

The CD is “very quiet”, but I am liking this Boulez version.

G’day Suzy,

My Bolero and Requiem Mass arrived today as well. I am waiting for a quiet moment.

Warm regards,

Mitch.

I found a quiet moment before dinner last night. I loved the way music was built over time, and I will need to turn up the volume for the second run.

Warm regards,

Mitch.
