Bose buys McIntosh group: OH NO!

Here we agree. 50’s years decoration. Or a pub like that picture.

They were very popular in the 80s I remember about 4 friends owning a pair. One them still has them, can’t remember what they sounded like though.

They sound BIG. Though soundstage isn’t very precise nothing gets close to sounding as big. Nothing. If you close your eyes, you could easily think the speakers are basically covering the wall with a row of subwoofers. Then you open them and it’s just two mid sized standmounts. Clarity and detail were seriously lacking but they showed you that sheer scale and weight could be as critical for that live performance feel. There is no sweet spot and the sounstage, though not accurate, is pretty consistent anywhere in the room.

If you had a living room bigger than two tennis courts, building a home cinema based on lots of 901s would have been amazing. They ended up in my AV system as 4.0. Rose tinted glasses perhaps.

I’m trying to source a good condition pair to replace the PMCs in my kitchen which are too demanding and unforgiving of the low cost front end. But 901s would be just right. Given how hated they are, I’m hoping for a bargain.

Gushing about them here is like admitting to preferring Kraft Cheese slices to Shropshire Blue at a wine tasting in a poshed up chateau but I have no shame.

No, no, no :joy::joy::joy:

Obviously I don’t prefer Kraft slices to Shropshire Blue. It was just to make a point.

Cheese is so expensive here, last year my birthday present was 200g of Shropshire Blue and Stilton.
