Bucket List

One of the most amusing “Famous Last Words” was allegedly delivered by Buddy Rich. When being wheeled into Triage following a heart attack, a nurse asked: “Are you allergic to anything?” To which he replied: “Yeah, country music.”

I’ve often thought that I’d love to use that line if anyone asked. Well - yesterday I was in the hospital treatment room (don’t ask) and sure enough, the nurse asked.

No prizes for guessing.

What was the nurse’s reaction?
I hope you are/will soon be home, fit and well.

In Britain in the past 2-3 years there have been lots of posters in hospitals and even on the backs of ambulances advising to ask “is it sepsis” (or something to that effect), because apparently that is a hidden killer that sometimes is missed. So I am determined if ever I find myself in an ambulance or A&E for an obvious injury like a broken limb, I will ask “but could it be sepsis”?

Yes I’m OK. It was a stoma malfunction replacement emergency.

Although I was able to fulfill my ambition to use Buddy’s last words, ironically the Spanish nurse didn’t understand it and my interpreter friend waved it off.

Hmmm. What’s next on the list?

I always reply “ hard work”

Very nasty, I hope you are getting the treatment and recovery you need.

Best wishes

Ta. Just waiting for the chiropractor to readjust me after having my spine put out from all the spasming from the pain. In the meantime, allowing medical indulgence in opiods.

Next… owning and using a genuine high-end Japanese gyuto kitchen knife (a whole new rabbit hole).

Ordered, pics to follow when Am**** have delivered.

Happy days.

My normal response to that, much to my wife’s dismay, is “only the wife’s cooking”!

I’ve always wanted to use the old Music Hall gag: Will I be able to play the piano after the operation doctor?

Yes.

That’s amazing because I couldn’t play before!
