Budget Phono Preamp

Thank you. :folded_hands:. I wanted to hear that. At about 5k, I would not want to have to change anything. I would rather use the money to buy the right cartridge.

Thank you.

In the UK it comes with a MM cartridge and for a few £’s more you can change that to a MC cartridge.

A good Linn dealer will sort you out and set the TT up for you, at least that is what mine did for me.

Thank you, Happy New Year to you also. I believe Tisbury Audio can deliver to outside the UK - more info on their website, where there’s a shipping page.

Thanks. I will ask the dealer.

You should try and get a listen to an AVM P30 phono stage, it has both mm & mc as well as loading options and can be upgraded with a better power supply if you feel the need.

Thank you. I am putting a list together based of the recommendations that I have received. I am going to the US in two weeks and I will try to audition as many preamps as I can. In the meantime, I am narrowing a Rega Fono MM. it sounds great plugged to the Naim Star and a Rega 3 RS.

Thank you again.

I am a fan of the Rega Fono because it was the first phono pre I bought to use instead of the one on board my rather good Denon AVR. For such an affordable add-on I was surprised it was so much better than the Denon’s. Being near the top of the Denon range at the time, it seemed mean the built in phono pre was as ho-hum as it was. But vinyl was only just starting its resurgence in those years; so, lots of those built-in phono pre’s probably never got used.
