I’m considering a NPX300 for my 333 or 332 but I can’t use a hifi rack so the chance of the Burndy not hanging free or touching the wall is close to a 100%. How important is this for the benefit of the NPX. Is it better not to buy the NPX if I can’t apply these guidelines or are these guidelines only for getting the last couple % out of the NPX?
Please do not comment if all you have to say is that I should buy a rack. I can’t have a rack, the isolation platforms are the maximum I can do in my situation.
I will have to let others answer on NC boxes specifically.
OTOH, to my old ears the most important things were: -
Not getting cables of different sorts ( (a) Burndies, (b) signal cables and (c) power leads) tangled around each other.
Not having any (esp Burndies) kinked up so that the connections are strained - the weight from the chunky Burndy seems to be an element in helping the connecting pins fit as they should, but having them tight to a wall would probably be the biggest mistake for that reason.
I know that there is a lot of satisfaction to getting cable-dressing perfect, and (because we have heard it) that getting it really wrong and just leaving it that way can sometimes be audible.
Like me, I see you have some Morgana cables. Those are shielded I think - we certainly found that using them meant that we could not hear any bad effects of knotty cable dressing at all, but the comments about not forcing/ straining the connectors still apply of course.
I would be very surprised in any of that negated the benefits of getting an NPX300, but i assume that you are buying new. Given that, can you just try it first?
The bigger question may be whether to put the NPX300 on the 332 or the 333. I am sure it is right to try both, but my impression is that those with a 333 as their only source mostly put it on that. I am sure that people will tell me if I have got that completely wrong, but do let us know which way works best for you.
