Buy a turntable?

We’re getting off topic here!!!

I visited the site Discogs, it’s a gold mine for the LPs:) suddenly I have ordered 4 in NM or VG+ state of the 70s/80s.

Discogs makes record collecting much easier, although I still like browsing through boxes of LPs.

Anyway, glad you’ve found a deck and are building a record collection. Enjoy!

I use Discogs to both catalogue my LPs (and CDs) and purchasing. It is convenient you can buy from your armchair but I have found like any online distant buying of such goods the results can be variable. Also I restrict myself to in country (UK for me) purchases to avoid postal issues and import problems/taxes.

For me it is great as you can hunt down something you can’t find locally but I enjoy going to used record shops and having a good browse more.

I bought an ND5 to replace the Elys2, I like the Elyse for its balance and its PRAT, I hope I won’t be disappointed!

Based on the ND7 you will be very pleased , totally different ballpark.

My Elys was quickly replaced by an Exact in P3 so know the sound signature and the ND7 is more like Ania than an Exact.

I received the ND5 yesterday, I can already say that the sound is improved on all criteria compared to the Elys2… naturalness, fluidity and image are superb, a very important upgrade for those who have a P3!

I had an elys and exact on my P25. Minimal top end. Put me off MMs.

The new Rega ND range of cartridges is very good and goes of course very well with Rega TTs.

I have resumed listening to my old LPs a few years ago. I have a few hundreds, in all conditions. Some are prints from the early 60s and still sound ok.
I have a Thorens TD145 with a MM cartridge. I’ve never tried to compare the audio quality of LPs vs my CDs - I do not stream, safe for internet stations over a Tivoli table radio. But when I do, I usually find LPs more pleasant to listen to than CDs.

Listening to LPs is a relaxing, humane activity. It doesn’t favor convenience, doesn’t allow for zapping and forces you to turn the record every twenty minutes or so (even less if you’re playing Beatles LPs).
Second hand vinyl is a lovely way to spend an hour or so if you have a store that’s near enough. I don’t care for new prints.
Jazz is lovely on vinyl, acoustic music, singers are a sure source of relaxation and involvement. Don’t discard the idea on the mere basis of not having new albums. LPs make a music library.
Best with any decision,
Max

I have 16, in my brain

Interesting article in this month’s HiFi Choice about how eBay’s new policies are pretty much killing off the record trade through it.

In their brain, no one is an adult. I’d feel sorry for anyone who is.

I have decided at the age of 58 to embrace the term Vinyls. I can now converse on the subject with my daughter.

Some of us don’t call them LPs or vinyls. They’re “records”.

I can happily use all those terms interchangeably now. I particularly like the term Record Player.

Do you have a link for that @Jamiewednesday - or is it in the issue with the HiFi Rose thing on the front (cover line = Bloom box!

Can you give us a clue.

Is it to do with eBay fees or postage or something else.

I have hundreds of LP’s I intend selling, but as usual haven’t got round to doing it yet.

Well, just how all the new policies are fking things up for people! Can’t really share as I’m sure there are copyright issues…
