Buzzing bizzare Nait 5i

Hi

My amp has just started buzzing.

When the vol control is at 7 o’clock the right channel buzzes. North Ng from left channel

When at 2 o’clock the left channel buzzes. Nothing from right channel.

The noise is far greater when an RCA is plugged into any other input.

Any ideas?

To summarise the follow-up questions you will now get:

  • Does the issue present identically on all inputs or just a subset?
  • Is the problem zero/negligible at other volume settings or just slightly less?
  • How old is the amp and when was it last serviced?

Hi. It happens on all inputs.

It does increase as volume is turned.

I don’t know it’s ages as I purchaed two years ago 2nd hand. It has never been serviced to my knowledge.

You could try swapping the speakers over to see if the fault is on the speakers or the outputs. If the outputs, it’s probably going to need a service/repair.

What country are you in?

Could well be the pot.

Did the buzzing just start out of the blue? did you change anything or do anything prior to this happening?

Yep. Although I did have an issue where the wires that feed the light on the volume knob had wrapped around the spindle multiple times, making it impossible to control via the remote. I released these wires but I’m now thinking why the wires had wrapped around tightly in the first place. Apparently they are supposed to be loosely wrapped around spindle. But not tightly.

Sounds like that could be the culprit
