Well are lol

You mean the CD5si.

Yes

I’m very happy with mine, but you are correct, many here feel it’s not expensive enough!! Just “entry level”

Entry-level doesn’t mean low-end… I kept it happily for several years and only sold it because it doesn’t have a digital output.

I started my Naim “journey” with a CD5 i (italic), then a CD5 xs and ended with that because there was and is no Naim upgrade path anymore. Yes the CD5 si is entry level for Naim, but now it is also the only level. I don’t think the lack of love for it is because it’s not expensive enough at all. The lack of love is more to do with the fact that there are much better, more up to date (Dac wise) players on the market.

I love mine with my SN-3
Perhaps because it’s discontinued it’s not being pushed.
It’s a great built like a tank simple spinner.

I had a CD5Si. I was not disappointed with SQ, but had reliability issues. I replaced it with a Luxman. Different sonic signature which I prefer. No reliability issues so far however higher cost Built like a tank

I had (actually still have in storage) a CD5si. I think it is a good CD player, but mine stopped working after about 5 years. The player just shows ‘Err’ whatever you feed it. When it failed, I decided to rip all my CD’s, go for a streamer (ND5XS2) and never looked back.

@whatu1tme2b How many CDs did you have? My husband likes the physical CD.

I do n’t know the exact number, but it is around 650. The convenience of a streamer is just unbeatable. Playing FLAC files from my NAS, Qobuz or Spotify Lossless streams, Internet Radio. The world at your fingertips.

I have also started buying digital downloads from Qobuz, but that still does not feel right  In that sense buying physical CD’s, taking delivery, holding it in your hands, reading the booklets etc. is more enjoyable.

Naah, rather too expensive IMO, honestly having owned most of the higher up Naim CD players, the I-series CD players become rather un-interesting.

The “only” issue is you can’t buy a higher up Naim CD player anymore - without the doorstop risk scenario of course.

Can you name a better, currently available cd player for close to the price? Genuine question

@AndyKH Define better? I think it’s built to a price. Mine had reliability issues. I was not sorry to move on to Luxman. Even at a higher price. You get what you pay for.

No complaints here.

Better sounding at a similar price point. And I disagree with ‘you get what you pay for’ especially in hifi terms.
