Yes. Always worth checking that everything’s there when buying used, or you can end up paying a lot for missing accessories.
Thank you Chris
A few thoughts, FWIW…
- The NC 250 is very expensive, but as good as my 300DR. That could help box count, but unless you saw a real bargain and were ultra-keen to reduce boxes, I assume it won’t help here.
- As others have said, a better way of reducing box count might well be active speakers.
- I can confirm ND5XS2 is a bit less good than NDX2 unless the former has an nDAC; and that adding a PS on the nDAC or NDX2 is not needed, but does improve SQ.
- Using a Core to rip CDs is a great option. We tested my CDS2 against Core/NDX2/XPSDR and not one of us could hear any difference at all with 52 or now 552. Like your CDX2, my CDS2 will die one day, and I will probably get a Core when it does.
- The obvious alternative will for both of us be a good CD transport - I think that there are several fans here of the Audiolab, Pro-ject and Teac options, for example.
NEWS!
I finally picked up my 252 and Supercap; the offer was too good to resist. I can hardly wait to hear this beast!
But now I’m suddenly having second thoughts. Did I completely overlook the fact that there are no analogue inputs for my record player?
I have a Rega Aria, which, as you know, requires an RCA connection. Where can I connect my Aria to the 252? Sorry for my ignorance, but now I’m not sure what to do, so I’m dusting off the manual to find the answer… But it’s not obvious for me
Anyone?
regards Peter
Don’t panic ! The rca output on the aria can connect to the aux input rca on the 252. Alternatively you can connect to a din input on the 252 using an rca to din lead.
All of the inputs are analogue. Ideally you should use a DIN input, which would require an RCA to DIN cable, but you can use one of the RCA inputs.
Have a read of the manual, it covers all this stuff in detail. It’s not an entertaining read, but the info you need is there.
Well I have my TT ( i don’t call it a record player) connected to my 252. Its not hard, the manual that came with the 252 will explain how.
Have you really spent out on a 252/sc and not downloaded the manual either before you bought it or at least after, in preparation for its arrival?
Okay, Bruss. Is it the RCA inputs called phono inputs aux 2..? The one between the RCA Cd inputs?
Can the two RCA inputs handle a phono player amplifier? I know I’m asking a lot of questions, but I want to be absolutely sure… Thanks in advance.
I don’t think I can find it clearly, I’m confused. But thank you ![]()
Either will work but I’d use the aux2 input.

The original manuals are in the box for the Nac 252. Yeah right, the TT..
It’s always nice to double-check with you guys here in the forum and take up your time ![]()
Thank you so much Bruss, and thank you all… By the way… Volume 252 is extremely sensitive, meaning it is VERY loud at 9 o’clock. It was easier to control on the NAC 272.
I think this has been mentioned in another thread.
So, that’s that sorted… thank you very much, HH.
You’re welcome. Make sure also that you have your Burndy and Snaic5 the correct way round - rings at the 252 end.
For the Rega it is worth considering Naim’s RCA to Din cable. They cost about £120 for a 1m cable. They are really very good.
I will consider that HH. Right now Im in my first playing hour with 252. No real sense of what’s happening right now. It sounds okay, of course… the seller said he had never used 252/supercap. So I have many hours of playback ahead of me. I hope the sound will loosen up as time goes by.
Now I just need to figure out why the volume is so high. There are threads on that topic…
It’s just the way the volume works on the older preamps, such as the 202, 282 and 252, and those that preceded them. They came from the age of vinyl, when inputs were lower. So with a line level source nearly all the volume is in the first part of the control, and it’s rare to get above 10 o’clock. The 272 has a completely different control, which increases smoothly from 0 to 100. There is no point looking anything up, you just have to get used to it.
HH, I think you are right. I just have to relax, again.. thanks!
When I got home and unpacked my Supercap, I noticed a small detail under the Supercap that I hadn’t noticed at the seller’s when I was there. Maybe I was too hasty after all…see the photo
Is this something I should be concerned about? Does anyone know what it could be, and is something missing? It looks like this. I’m thinking of a transport screw… no theres no transport screw on 252, but on 552 there is as I have understand
Do you have any ideas?
Edit deleted post, as my reply was for the 252. not a SCDR. Though the same answer may apply, I know they use the same sleeve for different Pre models, so the same may apply for the SCDR & the extra hole is to accommodate this.
