I want to be able to play music off the Unitiserve controlled from my android phone. I’ve installed the Focal/Naim app and it can see the UnitiQute2 but not the Unitiserve. I can see it on my laptop sitting on the network so I tried adding it manually using its ip address but it just returns “no product found”. Any idea what’s going on. I can find it and play stuff on it on an ageing ipad using the old Naim app (my usual MO) but the ipad isn’t long for this world. Any ideas what the issue is? TIA
For unitiserve you need the older n-serve app.
Looks outdated but is really good.
You can not use the hdx or unitiserve with naim / focal app
The unitiserve is a server and the Naim App cannot control it directly. If you choose the server input on the Qute, it should show everything that’s on the Serve, for you to play.
How would I go about downloading a legacy version of n-serve on my phone though?
If does but only by track, which is a bit useless. The other issue is that when I use the nServe app there is no “back button”. Only way to get back to the home screen for the app is to shut it down and re-start it.
App Store!
You don’t need the N-Serve app if you’re using the Unitiserve as a server for your Naim streamer. You just find it in the UPnP input using the Naim app and browse and play from there, as you are already doing. No configuration is normally required, so you probably have some sort of network discovery issue where your Android device isn’t seeing it.
The N-Serve app is used to play from the Unitiserve only if you are using its SPDIF output, although it’s also useful for editing metadata on CD rips etc. It’s iOS only (or there’s an OSX version) so you can’t use it on an Android device. Maybe put it on your iPad.
You must have touched a track setting or something, as the app can play by album perfectly. Have a fiddle about and work out where you are going wrong. You only really need the nServe app when you are playing music from the Serve into a dac via cable. When networked, just use the normal app to control the Qute.
It’s not even an option on my Android. Just Focal/Naim
Only from my ageing ipad but not from my phone.
Done that and that seems to work OK. So I’ve got the Naim app and nServe working OK but like I said the ipad isn’t long for this world. It looks like I can’t really use my phone to control music streaming at all then. Not a fan of apple but looks like I’ll have to bite the bullet and get a new iPad.
No. It just doesn’t work properly. Might be and Android issue as it probably works OK on an iphone.
Something’s not right here. You should be able to play tracks, albums or playlists.
On N-Serve, I have a back button in the top L corner. Is yours missing?
There never was a version of n-serve for Android.
Sorry I meant the Focal/Naim app on my android phone.
Correct. I meant the Focal/Naim app. I can only list by track. There is no back button.
It’s been a while since I’ve used the Naim app on Android, but I vaguely recall that there was a back button in a different position to the iOS app, I think at the bottom of the screen.
One of the problems with Android is that it is used by a number of different brands and a larger variety of screen sizes that Apple devices, so it’s harder to provide controls that work consistently on all devices. Maybe worth telling Naim support, as they could be unaware that some devices aren’t working as intended. Or perhaps this is a hidden feature - for example, does swiping the screen take you back?
Nope. Tried everything. There is no back button. I’ll bin off the idea of using my phone because it’s not going to work.
The UnitiServe works perfectly fine with the Android version of the Naim app (on a Samsung S23 in my case). You must be missing an input or hav a network issue. Check if the inputs in the app are properly ticked. I obviously renamed mine, by default it should say “Server” (or UPnP) if I remember well.
My ND5XS2 finds it, my Superuniti did as well. It has to be on the same network obviously, so if your UnitiQute or your phone are on a different network than the US it won’t work
