Car insurance shocker

Interesting, I would like to know the source of this story to ensure it’s genuine. My understanding is the ICE vehicles are more likely to catch fire than EVs. Large volumes of highly flammable liquid being transported at speed on busy roads.

That is why most EV manufacturers prefer to have the batteries made close to their car assembly plants.

I wonder how many Chinese EV makers do it here.

Phil

Their preference might not always be met. However, some Chinese EV manufacturers are making their batteries and assembling the vehicles in Europe rather than transporting them from China. For the same reason Nissan is making batteries in the U.K. close to its car plant in Sunderland. It does not make economic sense to bring them from Japan.

Perhaps the answer is not to buy Chinese EVs, for all sorts of reasons. The battery in my Renault is made in Europe. Vive la France.

Motor insurance does seem to have dropped a lot recently. About a year ago I did a quote for a BMW K1300s motorcycle which kinda comes into the Hypersport banding and a lot of insurance companies won’t even cover.
I’ve had a K1300 some years ago and a year ago thought I’d like to go back to another one but the insurance was going to be £500 with a voluntary excess of £300 + £300 compulsory excess….so I blanked it. Well when you’ve got an itch  so I’ve just tried again and £320 for fully comprehensive with the same excess.:motorcycle::open_mouth:

Google Mv Morning Midas on fire should give you all the information you require.

A lot of them come with run flat tyres now for that reason.

DG…

For most sane people, there is zero danger of that. :winking_face_with_tongue:

You got that right! As for me, I’ve been in Florida for almost 25 years, so I’m beyond redemption.

The only advantage in being nearly 67 is that you aren’t actually 67 yet. Being ancient is just awful

Quite right too! Those of us not fooled in to the ev none sense are already footing the bill for car insurance costs thanks to the inflated risks associated with ev’s.

Moved across to an EV and expected to be hammered for insurance but came in lower than my ICE - both cars from Jaguar. Insurance was from Admiral and being bundled with other insurances made a big difference to their pricing - worth checking out.

Thanks. One to remember for next year. Both car and house are now the LV, or will be next Monday when the house insurance starts.

You think? Whereabouts is Europe’s lithium mine?

ATB, J

Lithuania

It’s still made in France, and that’s all I claimed. I didn’t suggest every single part originated in France.

Are you sure? BMW seem to have given up on run flat tyres for their EVs - for reasons of fuel economy I believe, but it may also be because of EVs’ greater weight and the rather unforgiving ride of run flats.

Do you have any evidence for that assertion - some people here (a small sample) are saying their insurance has gone down recently, while the number of EVs and hybrids is undoubtedly going up.

My EV insurance went down £75 this year.
There is load of manure said about EVs ., more ice cars catch fire if you look at the statistics.
