I can’t see any problem with foil. It’s not the sort of surface a cat would like, so may well be an effective deterrent.
Over the years I have had cats that have slept on naim amps and powersupplies with no damage to the naim gear. What was more problematic was the cats when younger wanting to play with the turntable. An adult cat happily snoozing on a warm surface between night time partrols, means a happy cat and a happy cat is less likely to wake you up in the night. An all round win I would say.

Thanks Paul, she is very happy and an adopted stray, so it might be best to let sleeping cats lie - and we do have undisturbed nights. Luckily, being 70, I’ve not been seduced back into vinyl so no turntables to worry about.
