My cd3 player has developed a hissing/static like sound on one channel after 10 to 15 minutes of playing. Someone has said naim can no longer repair them, is this true.

I would have thought that a channel issue WOULD be repairable. Is it not the transports and laser mechs which are no longer available?
Dacs are not available too and these are known to fail. I think the cd3 was still based on the Philips 1541 dac.

The TDA1541As are rather failure prone, sad to say.
It could be the DAC failing, but @NeilS would probably know for sure.

Very likely a DAC failure & we can no longer replace these I’m afraid.

Looking inside my own CD3, it appears that Naim used the crown or double crown version of the TDA1541A (IIRC Naim did further testing and selection in-house). Genuine examples of these chips are long gone and the market has since been inundated with fakes, so it’s almost impossible nowadays to know just what you’re getting.

There are many good CD players available . I have a CEC CD5 which is very good but not in CDS3 class. Rega , Hegel Cyrus and others sound fine with Naim. Find one that can repaired though,

Do you have a digital input ? If so I would suggest a CD transport lots of good offerings , but (and I hope you don’t mind me saying) the CD3 is a significant bit of kit.
I would look at a TEAC or Pro-Ject CD transport
The top of the range Pro-Ject (Has I think) some happy users on this forum.
I’m using a naim nac62 and a nap90 through linn kans. And old setup but I love the sound

There’s nothing out there like a Naim CD3.
Maybe try a Rega, they are quite good replacements for a Naim CD player.
Rega do support their CD customers with repair and after service - Extremely important IME.
Just trying one out this weekend; early signs very good in the context of the study system; 32.5/200/keilidhs.
