CD555 Trade in value

I would definitely try to sell privately if at all possible. There is also a dealer who specialises in used naim equipment in St Albans who it may be worth speaking with - if they happen to have a customer looking for a CD555 then bingo. Otherwise as suggested above, either keep the CD555 for better market conditions or trade in. I suspect the 555PS may be easier to sell privately separately due to the wider potential applications. I can sympathise with the dealer offering you a low value if this isn’t their specialist area of a very limited market place. Good luck!"

I bought a second hand serviced (laser mech replaced) head unit from a dealer a few years ago for SGD8k (USD6K). Trade-in should b lower than this. Also acquired a second PS DR for AUD10k last year (maybe over paid).

ND555 sounds better than CD555 ? Very curious and interested.

Even I have owned CDS 1, 2 and 3 I have never been close to a CD555.
Actually I considered that very Question with my Isis in mind, a player which have a lifetime support warranty.

Would Naim be able to support your CD555 in future ?
Thats essential and reason why I left entire CDS camp, apart from Rega Isis, not many players in that quality range at all.
They are really satisfying if you compare with a turntable, as I do, not being interested in streaming.

As a complete outsider when it comes to ripping CDs and playing through a network player, your response caught my attention.

What do you use as the CD file source? Within the naim range there is the Uniti Core, but is there something better than a Core that you use?

I’m thinking about the future both from an upgrade perspective and age of kit. My browsing cookies are taking me towards an NDX2 so I’m thinking about what I could use with that.

I use a Naim HDX for ripping CD’s.
The HDX + nDac outperformed the CD players already back in -2009.

Thanks. I’ll look that up!

hifishark.com has expired auction results from ebay in the database, which is useful. (And it collects for-sale ads from many other sources, some decidedly dodgy, so take care)

That’s my experience, apart from the convenience aspects, (Roon for example), together with opening up to the world of HD.
A no brainer…

Hi RWC. As you ascend the price ladder and hopefully performance aswell the law of deminishing returns must come into the equation.
I have a subsription to Gramophone magazine and there is a section devoted to audio written by Andrew Evererd. In November 2022? he commented on his listening with an ND555 and two power supplies at a not insubstantial £32500!
Looking back to the first Naim player, the CDS, this was priced at c. £5000 and dropped jaws from the audio press. One comment was “all that money to spin a silver beer mat”.
