CD5si

Bought in 2018, loved how it sounds/operation… but until the other day it apparently needs a new cd mech, depending on the cost I’m seriously considering an Audiolab 6000CDT with a DAC, thoughts please, thanks.

I would find out the costs of repairs . The CD 5si is a good bit of kit , do you means the Audiolab has the facility for an external DAC ?

If so what are thinking of, the new Audio DAC ?

Best wishes

Ian

Yes, thanks Ian2001, I already have a DacMagic 200M, I was thinking of using this?

I sold mine and bought a Rega Planet 2000 for 250 euros which works perfectly, I use it as a drive connected to my SPL DAC… and you can still find mechanics.

I too would get a quote for the Si repair via a dealer.

Rather have a working 5si than an Audiolab transport.

Have you asked for service price ?

That said I’d never buy a Chinese Audiolab myself, I’m happy with UK made Rega players.

I’m heading that way, because I love the way the CD5si sounds, hopefully the repair cost is not excessive.

I have, my nearest dealer is Richersounds Newcastle, they will get back to me with the repair cost, hopefully next week.

I have no experience of that DAC. I have limited experience of the AudioLab (Though what I saw liked ) and had a CD5si

Mine died as well. My transport was working. It read and initialized the CD. Did repeat. No sound. The tech spent more than 2 hours here. No luck. Yet it worked at the dealer. I decided to get a new Luxman D03X. It’s on order. Good luck with getting yours repaired. If you do get it repaired, how long will the warranty be?

Probably 3-6 months I would imagine.

Sorry Jaybar, but your CD5si is not dead, you say so yourself… and not just in this topic.
The word Dead you choose does not correspond to your situation with your CD5SI…

I have more concerns about your dealer. And I’m not the only one on this forum.

This is the problem, dealer discussing with manufacturer can surely jack-up the price of repair so they both don’t lose out, is that what you mean?

I am quite satisfied with my dealer. There needs to be more done to diagnose the input on my 332 and the dealer is committed to that. However my CD5si worked for 4-5,days after my 300 series system was installed. Then it stopped producing sound. I was ready for a better CDP.

Most likely is a failed input relay on the 332, which will need to be repaired.

How is that diagnosed?

That’s exactly what I did when the CD5Si started skipping a year ago.The Audiolab 6000 has been flawless and through my ND5XS2 knocks spots off
