CD5X blanking plate when not using Flatcap2

Dear all, If a CD5x has been used with a Flatcap 2 and then simply fed into a Nait 50 without the Flatcap, does a cut out operate if the blanking plug is not reinserted into the back panel of the CD? Thanks a million for any advice. Dads’ CD appears to have an issue. The display panel responds positively to all manual and remote buttons. Phono / Din option for CD output has been correctly selected from the remote, cables and Nait 50 are all OK, discs spin. Thank you.

Blanking plug required if CD5x is run without a flatcap.

I think it is called a link plug. You will need it if you are not using an external power supply. You might get more performance if you go beyond a FC2. This assumes a better power supply is possible with your CDP

:+1: Thank you. Will try again, as without the blanking plug it didn’t work, so not sure if the CD is broken.

Be aware that once you’ve switched on the cd player, it is first on mute for 30 seconds or a minute or so. When I got my first Naim these idiosyncrasies drove me crazy and made me the audiophile I’m now.

Oh and it could also be that either din or phono outputs are switched off and you won’t get sound if you change from din to phono too.

The link plug connects or disconnects the analogue output stage of the player - this allows a Flatcap power supply to be dedicated to powering this section of the player. Without either a connected power supply or the link plug in place, there will be no sound output from the player.

Thanks Ardbeg, The Phono / Din option from the remote was tried first and it wasn’t that, a good call about this selection and warm up, although not that either.

Thank you Richard, hopefully that’s the issue. I’ll be trying the Link Plug when next over at dads’ as probably the last check we can do before trying a Salisbury service, if possible. It sounded lovely with the FC2 when it last worked, although quite a while ago.
