The same would apply to the nd555 if you are in that camp.
I personally couldn’t hear any difference years ago when i got the chance.

Solid advice. I sold my CDS III 6 years back but hung on to my CDSII head unit for some reason (largely no one was particularly interested). Since then I ran an Audiolab transport into an NDX2 for decent results. Over time I tired of the Audiolab’s slot loading and brought the CDSII out of retirement, kicked the NDX2 off the XPS, and am very happy with the results. Pont being agreement with “keep the one that you love”

Plenty of used Naim’s on Ebay, use my CDXS/NAIT XS2/Flat Cap on a daily basis im old school so
it does moi!
I wonder why…
I assume most people are getting rid before the transports fail and turn into expensive door stops.

My CD has failed twice Naim repaired(at a price!) my Nait Amp is an Ebay purchase, 500odd GBP works a treat!
I am assuming Naim CD players on ebay are there because the owners need to get rid before they turns into door stops.
Amps are a different kettle of fish of course, usually they can be repaired or serviced by Naim or Darran at Class A even at a very elderly age.
I was in Sheffield a few weeks back. I wouldn’t say Darran was very elderly!

Look, I love the Naim CDS2 and CDS3. I have had 2 CDS2s and a CDS3.
I would never buy a used Naim CD player now because there is no back up or service available.
Using Marantz SA10 nowadays. Different, and better in some ways than Naim, but it ain’t Naim!
Would prefer a CDS2 with 555PSDR if I could. But it wouldn’t last long!

Not necessarily - I think there are a number of folks who wish to concentrate on less hi-fi sources when digital has become their primary selection.

And using a CD player as transport into an ND555 just isn’t the same as a CDS2 or CDS3.
These players to me were like pure silk, especially the CDS2. Greatest player of all and I prefer to CD555, which is more like ND555.
Technically, it’s not as good as CD555 or my Marantz SA10 but it took me closer to the music.
Modern players just won’t do the same!
So what to do? Embrace the new and enjoy the difference! Sound has changed now with newer CD players.

I think the CD555 is more robust than the CDS2 and CDS3. So should be good for many years. Fingers crossed.

I bought my CDS3 on December 27, 2005 and to this day it’s been working flawlessly and sounds amazing. I still listen to it almost every day and I live in terror that it may stop working some day…
Fortunately, my brand new NSS 333 / NPX 300 is also excellent and nearly all my CDs can be found on Qobuz. But still…

I imagine that some of the abandonment of working CD players is prompted by an itch for change. I think justifying the move due to fear of failure and obsolescence is mostly self-soothing, based on my experience of zero failures since early days.
Chop and change for fun is fine; the explanations for doing so are unnecessary and overstate the real need, IMHO.
I suppose our non-HiFi friends would suggest all HiFi buffs like us, especially Forum-ites, are massively into self-soothing, too.

I have my CDS3 set up at present covering for CD555 in at Naim and (touch wood) it is performing with aplomb. First time I have used it with the 500 system and it is well up to it.
The puck is giving a few issues though with CDRs. Time for a new one I guess.

Yep. This is what’s driving many to sell, IMHO.
The only cd player that I could hear and which could replace a Cdx2, CdS3 or CD 555, is the DCS Puccini. Very fast, involving, agile and airy. You can find second hand, but can’t say if the mech can be changed if it fails.

I can vouch for Gazza’s intimations of Suffolk supplies; just trialling one for system 3, and although not as good as a CDX2.2, it’s not half bad and comes with a 5 year Naim guarantee.
