I have a Naim X2 that has its original laser replaced with an OEM one about 3 years ago.I purchased it 2nd hand by an owner who took fantastic care of it and knows the brand well.Anyway have been finding a few CDs it won’t play or won’t play most of the tracks on them.Thing is these CD were purchased new, have no visible scratches, and I cleaned them with a liquid cleaner for Polycarbonate after they would not play which seems to make no difference. Here’s a list most of them made less then 10 years ago:Van Morrison-The Essential (will only play a few of the first tracks on the first CD in the set none on the 2nd CD.Morcheeba-Part of The Process The Collection (won’t play 2nd disc). This Is Two Tone (won’t play at all).Spandau Ballet 40Years The Greatist Hits (won’t play either CD),Wild Original Soundtrack won’t play at all.Would like to hear from others here that own Naim CD players that have had issues with the players refusing to play certain discs to see if there is a commonality or way to predict which CDs Naim players won’t play
I am not personally familiar with the X2 but if it has a magnetic puck with rubber feet, this could be your problem. I had a Naim CD5 which would not play certain discs, my dealer sent it back to Naim, nothing was found wrong and they suggested it was the puck, I was devised to manipulate the rubber feet from time to time and not leave in situ when not playing as this depressed the feet. It was explained to me that some discs are a different thickness which explained why some discs worked and others didn’t even though I could see no obvious scratches.
Thanks for your response. You know I had issues with it playing some discs with the puck it was sent with and I might have replaced it with way puck from my CD5X which strangely “reduced” the problems it has playing those discs mentioned above. But that might have caused it not to play these OTHER discs.I’ll try to get the correct puck part number for the X2 and get a new one to find out if THAT is the cause.
Wow! I just tried to Google Naim North America’s Service email and phone and NOTHING is coming up.Can ANYONE here provide that info? Sent an email to Naim Service in the UK but they seem to take forever to get back to you
Having had almost every version of the Naim CD-players,I had no problems with the early players like CDS and CDI,those problems came with CDS2 and later.
Sorry, I only know of Tom Tom Audio in England which sell Naim pucks, good luck
Thanks broomy! Will try to contact Tom Tom for the puck.Did a Google search nothing came up (at least in stock at the moment )
Perhaps it just doesn’t like your taste in music?
Maybe. But I won’t be changing my Alternative/Punk/Ska/Downtempo/Reggae tastes to Country Western, or Taylor Swift anytime soon-lol
Drop them an email, very helpful and vastly experienced Naim Dealer
