CDS3 and XPS

The XPS2 has now come back from a service at Class A. Good to have it back, playing CDs again! No doubt it will take the usual few weeks to come fully on song! So far sounds a bit brighter and less warm than before.

Give it a week or so, as you say

Had my 52/sc/xps back from Class A for nearly three weeks now, and I think it has settled down. Had a few ups and downs like the two days when all the bass went on a mini break. So nice when it came back. It lost its sparkle for a couple of single days, but it’s more consistent now. Time will tell if there’s more to come.

Enjoy the roller coaster ride of “burn-in”, but enjoy even more the knock out sounds you’ll get in your system when it settles down. :notes::notes::notes:

Glad to hear that your system is settling down nicely.

The CDS3 with XPS2 is sounding beautiful this morning. Silky smooth ! And so good to have it back.

Just heard recently in an extended demo the CDS3 by accident. Years ago I had a CDX2 with NDAC and XPS. And I would argue that to my ears the CDS3 is ahead in refinement and warmth/roundness. So congratulations with your additional source. Personally I put my money all on one source, to get the best there and not loose funds on the 2nd source. I would only reconsider in case I wouldn’t have cats and would potentially get myself black gold.

I enjoy the three sources in different ways. But I can see what you’re saying my putting all the money into one source.

My favourite source is my LP12, but I use the NDS the most. The CDS3 fills a gap where something was missing from the NDS.

All feels complete now source wise! Would love an ND555, 552 and 500 as well.

Will get there eventually.

For now I am enjoying what I have!

I think you are right to have multiple sources. For many years I have effectively had a 5 or 6 box CD player. My preamp which can accommodate multiple sources, has only been fed one source. What a waste. Once I recover financially from the shock of this years upgrades, I will be getting more sources.

What are you thinking of getting? An LP12 on the cards?

Exactly! :ok_hand:

Just been listening to CDS3 today myself - thoroughly enjoying it with 555PS. So enjoyable in fact that even the LP12 with the new Karousel has been put to one side ! :grinning:

It sounds amazing with the 555PS. Mine is used on NDS!

XPS2 sounding very silky and smooth.

The CDS3 with 555PS is more dynamic with clearer presentation. Enjoy!

Have you researched which one to go for? I made slight mistake of buying one on eBay as tonearm bearings were damaged which cost me ÂŁ100s to put right. If buying used I would advise buy from LP12 specialist such as Cymbiosis.

You’re looking at loads of potential upgrades as well!

Yes, I am going in with my eyes wide open regarding upgrades and the money pit that opens up.

I have spoken with Peter, who knows my system, and will be taking his advise when the time comes. I think I need to save for quite some time. Hifi coffers are empty at the moment.

Listening to my Lp12 playing Electric Light Orchestra. I’m afraid to say it is my best source. Lol. Might have to upgrade everything else!!

Yes, LP12 too in my case but the CDS3/555 I can more than live with for everyday listening and the lazy side of me appreciates it. Such a smooth and musical presentation !

And talking of ELO, that clip on the Sky Arts show last night (the Garvey guy) with the cellist being consumed by dry ice was pretty priceless. :grinning:

Didn’t see it I’m afraid. Too busy listening to music! Haha!

The CDS3 is lovely sounding and is the best looking CD player ever!

Have you considered the world of streaming? Bloody complicated to start but am enjoying it for last few years.

Will check it out!

My streaming is limited to the Muso service in the ‘slumming it’ system. Maybe I will transition to ND555 if I win the pools…

Lottery nowadays? Could do with some luck. Thinking statement pre and power ND555 and 2 x 555PS. Maybe an exotic turntable as well!
