I could consider Gryphon Ethos.

It shall be, because it’s discontinued. Original price is 11k euros. I am quite sure it’s possible to buy it for 7 or 8k.
Into my Nds / 2 ps, I feel the Nd555 will be outclassed.

This one is 37 k euros. Not discontinued. Make you a Santa gift. Life is short. :joy:

Peter Tyson is not discounting that one, only the “soon to be replaced” SA 10

Living in the Netherlands, I know a few ex-Philips engineers. These machines can be repaired.

I’m not sure if it’s smart, but hey that’s what we call ‘Love’.

Yes, but it’s however tempting. Instead of buying an Nd555 second hand, this SA 10 into Nds may be better. And can play SACD.

To flatten lps? A bit expensive Ardberg, not ? ( not repairable now…)

I will be honest here as you all know l try to be!

The Marantz SA12SE as transport into ND555 is brilliant. It sounds better than NAS and Qobuz. Obviously there are firmware issues at the moment preventing my full enjoyment of my ND555 for streaming. This will not be affected by using CD transport.

@frenchrooster the SA10 may well be better still as transport, but SA12 is superb. It may be that it’s mainly the DAC that has improved with SA10. Let’s ask @Ryder35 as he has just bought the SA10 and see what he reckons.

Still running in and I am using it as a player, not transport. I have also connected my Innuos pulsar to the usb and run Roon through it. Dac seems very smooth, a touch warm but not in a bad way. I ordered the only SACD I could find on amazon (brothers in arms) and I have to say the SQ is amazing, smooth detailed and very analog. Impressed so far but there is a bit of coarseness in the top end on cds at the moment. Hoping it is a running in thing.

Not sure that there has been a solid conclusion made public around the mechanism of the ‘firmware issue’. It may relate purely to streaming performance rather than having any impact on the DAC or output stages but this is yet to be stated AFAIK?

Not so sure, if it’s related to firmware tuning, then it affects all streams through the DSP.
I’m loving the new firmware on my NDX2 feeding my DAVE… better than the other variants… and yes the SPDIF is controlled and created by the DSP.

Naim cannot fully support more recent kit than a CDX2.

eg This is a big part of the bottom falling out of 272 s/h value. £3,000+ to £800 on a good day in 5 years. At these retail prices, support commitment less than 10years is a disgrace really. Linux manage it.

Naim worked very hard to keep its CDPs going tbh.
It’s largely down to third party components no longer being available. Particularly, transport mechs. When they’re gone they’re gone.

Perhaps Mend It Mark can fix it.

Thanks Dan, I was convinced that feeding the ND555 from a NAS or Qobuz would be better than the CD player as a transport but I have never done the test (I sold my CDX2 many years ago).

True, but poor quality PCBs that can’t be serviced (Superline, NDS, etc) doesn’t fall into that category - it was poor sourcing/manufacturing quality in the first place. When they’re cheap, they’re cheap!
