Certain video streaming apps does not show naim streamers as available devices

Every summer I subscribe to a tv service because they send Tour De France. I stream it on my iphone usually.
When I am at home it is obvious for me to use the nd555 to route the audio to and since the app supports chromecasgt it would be obvious to select my streamer as a chromecast device. However this app and at least one other video streaming device simply does not show any chromecast devices. This is obviously not true, and a bit strange since airplay shows all my airplay devices and of course the nd555. Chromecast works with other audio apps so it is not a fault in my system.
Of course now I will have to ask the support, but maybe somebody here knows if there is an obvious reason for developpers only to allow certain chromecast devices to be shown.

I’ve known mobile tv player apps that don’t allow Chromecast at all, and my understanding is that this is was for licensing reasons, e.g. the content was licensed for playing on tiny little mobile phones and the license owners didn’t want content to be cast to nice big tv screens.
In the case where an app does support casting, but is only listing some devices and not others, the only thing I can think of is that something like the nd555 supports casting of audio and the app wants to cast video/audio? Perhaps there is something in the chromecast protocol where there is a capabilities check? But that’s just pure guessing on my part  .

Hi @Claus

This typically comes down to if the app support Chromecast for video, Chromecast for audio, or both.

Naim products are Chromecast audio products, so apps that strictly work with video streams and can’t supply demuxed audio to the device will typically hide audio devices.

Airplay works at operating system level and redirects audio that would of played out of the local phone speaker and feeds it to the Airplay enabled streamer. It adjusts video latency etc, so lipsync is all correct. However, Airplay ties up the phone while streaming, while Chromecast does not.
