Just wondering what would be the more effective upgrade? I’m currently using a £10 unswitched logik mains block so suspect the powerhaus may be the way to go but seems a lot of money (£600) for a mains block.
I currently have a hi line but have always wanted to try the super lumina . Unfortunately I can’t demo either of these options. For the price of a second hand super lumina I could get a second hand power line (to connect the mains block to the wall socket) and the powerhaus. I think this might be the way to go?
Accepting that HH’s response is probably the best approach, to answer your original question the SL interconnect may well appear the best value for money at the same price as as PowerLine, particularly in light of their respective original cost.
However, as you can demo neither, you may well find the PowerLine to the NDX2 offers the better results, given that SL usually works best in a full loom .
+1 to investigate dedicated mains supply if you have not done so already. Thereafter I personally have found the mains supply to be more fundamental than interconnects. In fact I have backtracked from the rabbit hole of some Chord cables and Naim HiLine back to Naim Lavender and have never been happier with the sound.
I run a Chord M6 block, I am not sure about the P6 but it may have a C19 connector that won’t accept a powerline unless you use adapter. I tried that and the sound was meh. Far too soft with kind of too much of what the powerline to the gear does. Hard to explain weirdly artificial.
I now run a short cable based on shielded Belden mains to the M6 and then powerlines to all the Naim boxes. Klimax Radikal has a Powerline Lite.
Maybe hang around for something to come up second hand on the blocks then you won’t lose much if for any reason you are not impressed.
Your profile shows Powerlines on all the Naim boxes. Is that correct and are they all plugged into the cheap power switch? If so, I’d go with the P6 and a Powerline to the wall socket first, as you won’t be getting the real benefit of the existing Powerlines across the system. Then save for the S/L, which for your system should be a significant improvement too.
Yes that’s right Mike. It does seem a bit silly to have all powerlines plugged into a £10 mains block I bought in Asda! So agreed, the chord mains block may be the way forward here…
As you might understand those are not really mutually exclusive options (good interconnect and mains block), ideally you need both.
However I would definitely go for mains block (and generally speaking power supply upgrades) vs SL. Btw, PL is not the strongest of options from the wall, with a good mains block you can easily use lite as a temporary solution.
