I’m only interested in those two, that’s all. I currently own the Chord Signature XL and it’s supposed to be my endgame. Very good cables. However…there are suggestions the Sarum T has better flow, unfortunately for me!~
Furutech is just another option as it’s also supposed to be a great cable. I have a DPS4.1 mains power cable and acknowledge its quality and potential. There are more alternatives out there but I just want to narrow it down to one or two. FWIW the Sarum T will likely get the nod, once I’m ready to purchase. Currently funds for the hifi have been depleted after a recent purchase of a costly interconnect.
Hi @ryder , how long will the loudspeaker cable runs be?
FYI, I currently use Sarum T at 6.0m. Also, if you have some cash, you could self assemble the Furutech DSS 4.1 at much lower cost and do the trial yourself, maybe borrowing a set of the Chord Sarum T from a dealer for comparison before finally deciding? And if Sarum T wins, sell the Furutech.
I require at least 4.0m. As I’m buying used, I’m in no hurry. Once the funds are available and there are no used pairs I may just trade in my existing Chord Signature XL or perhaps Naim 282/250DR for a new pair of Sarum T. However it won’t be too soon as I have not done the comparisons (Gryphon Diablo 300 vs 282/250DR) and am still waiting for my new pair of interconnects to arrive from Japan.
This is a guess so please don’t slaughter me for it but I think the Furutech plays more in the ball park of the Chord Music and if I’m right should be a step above the Sarum T.
I should mention IME the connectors play a huge role in the performance of cables and if build quality is anything to go by the Furutech is in a different class. I love the locking banana plugs, they sit securely in the speaker and the plastic or whatever material it is, is supposed to prevent vibration travelling back down the cables.
100% Sarum T. If you like what the XLs do, you’ll love what you get from the Sarum Ts. No disrespect to the Furutechs, which are beautifully made, but they are emphatically not in the same sphere as Music.
For thousands of years, the mighty starships tore across the empty wastes of space and finally dived screaming onto the planet Earth, where, due to a terrible miscalculation of scale, the entire battle fleet was accidentally swallowed by a small dog.
I have, but not compared them side by side and, to be fair, I wasn’t specifically listening to what they were doing in the Chord Electronics system I was listening to, but it - the system - was fine. I did subsequently hear essentialy the same system with Music cabling and that was excellent.
As you may know, Chord (cables) sometimes uses Furutech mains connectors, in fact there’s one on my Music mains cable feeding my M6, which suggests there’s some respect there. However, I did at one stage have a Sarum T mains cable fitted with a Furutech plug but ended up preferring the Chord-plugged version (an equally “un-burned in” one , before you ask) . I had expected the combination to be great. I did get into a discussion with them (Chord) about it and they made it clear that their choice of materials, not just for connectors but even down to the choice of solder, was an exhaustive process.
Since then, they’ve brought out Chord alloy connectors and I have to say I’ve found them to be excellent. Rhodium was considered apparently, but I started to switch off when the discussion veered towards Ohms law and the comparative advantages/disadvantages of various metals commonly used in hi-fi applications.
Anyway, all my cables have since been reterminated with them, including my speaker cables, and I couldn’t be happier. I’d say they’re at least as good as anything produced by Furutech.
Also, as far as the speaker cables are concerned, Sarum T have a tuned array, which the Furutechs haven’t got.
Overall though, as Ryder has been very happy with the Signature XLs he’s been using, he might just be impressed by their bigger, better brothers.
I had the OHMIC chord alloy plugs on the NAC A5 cables and I thought they worked so well with NAC A5. However I have also been impressed with the rhodium that is on my Furutech power cables and speaker cables. As one single cable hasn’t been used with the two different connectors from the two brands i cannot surmise which connector is better however I have an affinity to the Furutech Rhodium.
The copper thats engineered by Mitsubishi for the Furutech does seem to be very well engineered if one is to go by the write ups but also in practice I’ve been impressed by the results.
I will accept that Chord Music sounds better but “not in the same sphere” I highly doubt that. Even the Furutech compared to NAC A5 isn’t a different league in my book. Yes it presents a more linear sound. More detail, less harshness, more texture but in the context of musical engagement and overall sound impressions (which is how I judge all hifi) the NAC A5 holds its own and is a worthy competitor. Then if i take the price difference into consideration i would recommend NAC A5 to more users. Similarly the Chord Music is on average 3 times the price of the Furutech and yet again I would GUESS if it is better it’s not by much.
