I haven’t, but the first thing I would try is power off restart of your TV. If that doesn’t help then check that the TV firmware is up to date.
It hit on Sunday. Worldwide issue with earlier Chromecast kit. Google working on a fix. In the meantime they say do not do a factory reset of your Chromecast. Of course this advice came long after I, and many others, had done just that. This will involve a longer more convoluted fix.
Willy.
There’s a piece in the Verge about this titled “Some Chromecasts are giving ‘untrusted device’ errors today”.
Google is “aware of an issue with some older generation Chromecasts,” Google spokesperson Nicol Addison told The Verge in an email, adding, “Once we have more details about the issue and the fix, I’ll share those with you.”
Thanks guys!
Some additional information I read in a Dutch article (maybe aready known to you). Advice is not to return the device to factory settings.
Too late with respect to my ChromeCast Audio pucks, although the message I got was different.
What has me concerned more is that obviously the Naim Mu-so Qb has Gen.2 Chromecast built into it, like the Chromecast Audio pucks, so if Google do decide to ‘retire’ Gen.2 this year, being it celebrates its 10 year anniversary in 2025, does this Naim device and possibly others in their range, then lose this input as an audio option?
It’s confusing indeed. Official support state in general that one should try a factory reset in case of an error.
But the official reply by Google on reddit stated that advice was not to.
Intriguing question… But on the other hand usually support for old systems and services stop after a certain amount of time. So I wouldn’t be surprised.
Update. My Naim Mu-So QB seems to be back in action this morning (GMT) and the device information found in the Home app for this device is stating the Cast firmware: 1.56.310669
The CCA pucks still remain broke.
Just read an article suggesting that this may take weeks to fix - it can’t be done on the server side. Fortunately for me, I’ve recently replaced my three pucks with Wiim streamers.
Don’t the Wiims also have chromecast ?
Not all ChromeCast devices are affected. But ChromeCast Audio pucks are.
The satisfaction that my Naim was displaying correctly in the Google Home app was short-lived and again it displays being offline. However, both verbal and cast icon commands to play audio are received by the Naim without problem and the Focal app informs me that ‘Cast in enabled’.
So, basically, the Google Home app is a shambles still when it comes to Chromecast devices and you have no idea really whether or not your device is part of your network, or not.
It always looked an impressive piece of kit but being over $300 in the UK and 10 times the size of a CCA puck, it’s not really a like for like replacement. That unfortunately has never been created.
The Wiim Mini is $90 at Amazon.com. Is it really $300 in the UK. (There are more expensive models, but even the Mini does far more than the ChromeCast puck.)
But it doesn’t do Chromecast
Huh - you’re right. I bought the Pro. But that’s still only $150 in the U.S. And they go on sale from time to time for 20% off.
Thanks again chaps for the inputs. Could I simply solve this by buying an updated Chromecast?

Lindsay
