Holding down the mode button until it reboots fixed mine, it allowed me to go in and did the express setup.

Quite often they come up as new - stock spare. I got mine for around 80 quid off ebay and it was sealed (although it might have sat in a box for a while since manufacture).
And if it’s old, you should ideally update to the appropriate latest firmware (IOS version) … and for that you will need to manage the switch. It’s unlikely you will see anything basic fail with old firmware but you could get some funnies elsewhere…or you may even find difference in SQ performance … again unlikely but possible.
