We had the Cocchi, now on a Lustau. Different notes.

Is the bottle on the left a pre-mixed ready to serve version?

I didn’t know Campari did such a thing. Is it any good?

I think better make your cocktail.

Bravo. Beefeater is a fantastic and fantastically-underrated gin.

Now build that Negroni!

Tonight’s Negroni adventure is a twist on the Vermouth…

Dark and punchy. Liking it.

Negroni here is: Giant ice-cube, one third Gordons Gin, one third Campari and one third the Red Vermouth below. Add a few drops of Angostura Bitters and a slice of orange. Heaven.

Not a vermouth we’re familiar with.

Reviews would suggest it’s interesting, might buy one.

We have a selection of vermouths but gin requires fewer options (has to double as a GnT base for SWMBO).

Vermouth can match the mood - light, fruity, dark, bitter

Cocktail - Thyme Heals All

Serves 1
For the thyme stock
100ml water
80g sugar
5-6 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves picked

For the drink
15ml thyme stock
25ml gin - we use Bedrock
5ml lime juice
125ml ginger beer, or Dry Dragon kombucha, which you can buy online

To make the thyme stock, bring the water and sugar to a boil over a medium-high heat, turn the heat to low, add the thyme, and stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is clear - about three to five minutes. Leave to cool, then store in the fridge in a sterilised jar.

To make the drink, put the stock, gin and lime juice in a shaker with a big handful of ice, shake, then strain into a tall glass and top with ginger beer (or kombucha).

A Negroni made with Tanqueray, Campari and this lovely ‘golden vermouth’ from Tarragona giving it a lighter colour. Unfortunately, many bars these days balls up what is an easy cocktail by making a basic error. They put ice in the glass and then add the ingredients at room temp so the ice quickly melts - the drink dilutes and warms up at the same time. The Negroni should be made in a cocktail shaker with ice and then transferred to the glass with fresh ice. Drink stays cold and less dilution

My trick is to keep the glasses in the freezer.

No bitters? Makes it imho.

Ooh! Which bitters?

Angostura, and a slice of orange.

Not sure it’s obvious from my pic but I put a strip of orange zest in. Maybe I’m being thick but isn’t the Campari there for the bitter?

I had read that Negroni was very popular, but no idea it this popular! Not a favourite of mine, sadly. Rather have a Manhattan.

Manhattan is the absolute best - no contest. Just a bit of variety with the Negroni.
A sweeping statement but the only decent cocktails are based on either bourbon or gin. Discuss!
