Connecting 2x HiCap DR to 282

Good day folks.

I’ll soon be adding a second HicapDR to my wonderful 282. Although I do have the diagram which seems straightforward, I want to make sure I’m not missing anything and moreover avoid damaging something.

I understand I need to remove the plastic cover in order to connect the second HiCapDR but I was wondering if there anything I need to do with the 5pin cap that came in the 282’s accessories bag (picture attached). Also, does the socket highlighted in the diagram remain open / unconnected?

Thank you kindly!

Nope. No need for any plugs when connecting two power supplies. Link 2 can be left as-is with nothing in it. You literally do only what is shown in the diagram.

Oddly that diagram is not in the instruction book for my 2013 282. When did this diagram start appearing ?
I use 2 of hicap drs.

It’ll be from the Connection Guide which covers all the Classic amps, not the regular product manual.

Looks good to me.
It gets marginally more complicated when the 250 becomes a 300.
Last strip and clean I did left me with no sound due to HiCap connections being the wrong way round🤷🏻‍♂️

Can I ask a question regarding the benefits of the second hicap, it’s something I have thought about doing for awhile but feelings on the forum seem very mixed, thanks for anyone’s thoughts.

There are multiple previous threads on this - a search will enable a wide variety of opinions.

Done exactly the same. Got my manual out, but it was not obvious from it.

Mine was a call to Tony my dealer and sorted relatively quickly, if not without some embarrassment :face_with_peeking_eye:

Once you realise the HC that does the signal is the same HC that is connected to the power amp, all is good.

Good luck finding anything useful like that on the “New and Improved” Naim website!

(in case you’re interested, google it and you’ll find it on the Cymbiosis website)

I don’t recall seeing it on the old website either, but these things can usually be found online easily enough - once you know they exist.

It was previously, I remember downloading a copy.

DG…

Any idea how would I further connect the 282 with 2x HCDR to powered speakers (PMC 25.23 active)? 2x 4DIN to RCA/XLR?

Well since the output is not balanced, you might as well go DIN to RCA to the speakers. XLR is not really helping unless it is a balanced connection.

If the lead is long, you may need it slugged with a resister as the Naim is not designed to drive long interconnects. Naim generally recommend a resister over 3m length but it seems there are others on the forum who have gone up to 5m and not upset the HiCap or preamp.

Thank you @feeling_zen !
Any chance I might find a diagram for these DIN-RCA cables?

Best to use two seperate DIN to RCA leads.
From the HiCap, using two of the DIN sockets
One for right speaker, one for left speaker.

I’ll find another thread which discussed exact details recently…

Channels are reversed in the diagram - ch.1 = left ch.2 = right.
