Connecting Brennan b3+ to qb2

Hello,

Apologies if this is not the right place to post this question but I am wondering if anyone out there has successfully connected a Brennan b3+ to the mu-so qb2?

I am trying to do it wirelessly as the units are in separate rooms with thick, stone walls and about 10m apart.

I have tried to search for servers on the qb2 but it couldn’t find the Brennan. Someone on the Brennan forum suggested trying a wireless audio transmitter and receiver with optical inputs/outputs.

I would welcome any other suggestions.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi!

If I’m reading the specifications correctly the B3+ doesn’t have server software built in, so the QB (which will be looking for uPnP servers) won’t find anything…

The Brennan does let you see the contents of it’s internal disk from a computer though, so - assuming you have a computer - it might be possible to install (eg) Minimserver and configure it to serve the BR3+ files as uPnP for the QB to play.

To my mind it’s an elegant solution, but might be more complicated than you want.

Thanks for the swift reply and suggestion. Believe it or not I only have a work’s laptop and I don’t think they would be too pleased if I start using for more exciting things like you suggested.

Thanks again.

I wondered if that might be tha case…

The transmitter/receiver suggestion should also work, but might be a bit of a minefield.

I gather the B3+ will connect to Sonos endpoints though, so you could use a Sonos Connect (if you can find a s/h unit - discontinued some time ago I think). The current Sono Port doesn’t have optical out - only coax - so would need a conveter, or use an analogue connection.

I used a Connect into a Naim system - but it’s now with my daughter…

Other alternatives are ’buy a computer’ (sorry) or, maybe, a NAS drive to which you could copy the files from the Brennan. Many (most?) NAS come with a preinstalled uPnP server, but it’s straightforward to install your own choice, and it’s designed to be left switched on permanantly, which many people are reluctant to do with a computer. Especially one which you might want to pick up and carry around with you!

Bottom line - I’m sure you could make it work, but how hard is too hard?

Thank you for this.

I might try connecting this transmitter to the 3.5mm jack output on the Brennan and the receiver to the equivalent input on the qb2, using 3.5mm to rca cables.

The delay might be an issue if you want to play both at the same time, but none of the other options (apart from threading a cable between the two… ) are likely to be better. Try it and see!

Thanks Andy, your replies are most appreciated.

The transmitter/receiver combo worked.

Inserts smiley face emoji.
