Hi, but of a naim virgin so please treat me gently.
I’ve just set up nap150, nac112, flatcap tx, n1501.
Totally happy with the set up.
My problem lies with my lp12 . I can buy an after market convertor lead to fit from the lp12 to naim but there is no earthing option on the back of the kit.
Do I need to get my lp12 rewired to suit?
Welcome to the forum Steve.
It sounds like you need a phono stage. A Stageline would work well here and can be powered directly from the preamps powered AUX2 input.
What cartridge are you using on the LP12?
Welcome Steve, I think Richard has answered your question, good luck.
I’m guessing it’s an early K9 as it’s yellow not grey.
I’ve pretty much exhausted my budget to date so I’m unsure how to proceed. Tyvm for your time and replies
As said a Stageline will be a great option but to add the unit will have an earth screw on it and then the 5 pin Snaic to the pre-amp (comes with the Stageline) will not only power the Stageline but take care of passing on the earth connection to the pre amp. There will be no need to modify the LP12 or the arm you have on it.
Just make sure you get the appropriate model of Stageline to suit your cartridge. For example an “N” model is for all moving magnet carts and usually an “S” model will suit most Moving Coil types but there is a “K” model for some specific MC carts
It doesn’t have to be a Stageline if the budget is tight. Otherwise consider the Rega Fono MM, or the Project Phono SE (often available secondhand for less than £50) as just two examples until such time as you can afford a Stageline N.
Located a stage line on eBay. Am I correct in thinking I need a 4 pin to 5 pin din lead to link up?
You can get used Stagelines for less than half price of a new one these days so going there may help. It may be worth talking to your local Naim dealer about used models otherwise eBay is the cheaper option.
It should come with one.
A 5 pin Snaic to get power from the preamps power source. You only need a 4 to 5 pin interconnect if you independently power the stageline from its own power source like a flatcap or hicap.
You’ll need a Stageline N. When new it came with the necessary SNAIC5 to hook it up to the pre-amp. Make sure it come with one secondhand.
Creek OBH-8 Mk2 sounds good with K9 and Naim amps but you’re look at around £100 as couldn’t see any second hand ones on ebay.
Stageline would be a good match for the rest of your Naim gear. Note that it has a high input capacitance, I don’t know how well this matches the AT/Linn cartridges of K9 vintage.
Cheers. I’ve looked on audio-t, so I know where I’m going, and what I’m NOT going to spend!
There is a naim on eBay I’m looking at.
Really appreciate all your help and support
I had an original Mission Cyrus 1 from 1983. Superb phono stage, for years a used to feed it into the Nait 5i that I had, via tape out obviously.
I traded the Nait 5i for a Nait5, a noticeable downgrade with the power output. I continued with the Mission phono stage until i could afford an upgrade. I tried a Stageline, Cambridge Audio, Rega, and QED offerings. The Stageline was the only one that won the deal, the Mission gave it a good run for its money though. The others did not do justice to my Pink Triangle and Naim amplifier.
