I have my PV1D connected to the sub line out of my AVR
I’m thinking I might well get more out of it by connecting to the spare 4pin outlet on the S/cap ie have the PV1D active on all sources
I have come across a cable that can run 8 metres using Mogami 2965 cable Naim 4 pin to rca’s
Has anyone had any experience of this arrangement please?
My memory tells me to bear in mind the need to “slug” these cables - is this necessary with newer amps? My 300 is a DR.
Thanks
Naim has a cable. Din to two rca male. So then you need a female to female rca bridge. Subs to rca.
Naim didn’t recommend a slug resistor and I haven’t had any issues.
This hookup allows the subs to be used for two channel audio in addition to movies etc sourced via the avr. However you need to redo your setup on the avr because this will not use the avr crossovers to separate lfe and low frequency signal from the rest of the audio package. With my avr I now set the main right and left speakers as “large”. The low frequency signal now goes both to the subs and the main right and left speakers. All good. I’m happy with the change
Thank you Blake
I would suggest that you use the speaker level connection to your sub, for two reasons.
First, Naim amps usually perform better when connected in this way. The sub manufacturer probably tells you that this connection can be made to the loudspeaker output sockets on the amp, although with Naim amps it’s usually better to connect directly to the loudspeakers.
Second, this will free up the low level inputs on the sub to be used for the LFE channel on your AV amp. You can then switch between the two sub inputs depending on whether you are using it for music or movies and save the correct sub configuration for each use type, as these will be very different.
Thank you Chris
I will need to look at the manual again!..as it becomes a positioning “thing” now!
Plenty time ahead to mull it all over
I will let you know how I get on idc
