Sitting here streaming The Necks - Travel album from last year, via Qobuz. It sounds truly excellent and it got me thinking about how happy I am with my current setup (Atom HE, PMC Twenty5 23i’s / Focal Clear MG) and how I’ll probably never need to significantly upgrade any part of it. It’s such a pleasant feeling listening to the music with a feeling of extreme contentment.
My system is not the most expensive but to my cloth ears it’s all I could ask for. I think any lingering desires for possible expensive future upgrades such as NSC222 and PS have gone. Maybe a Powerline in the future but that’s about it
Contentment - what a great feeling and who’d have thought I’d have this revelation listening to The Necks who I didn’t even know I liked before this morning.
I’m not so sure. It’s rather nice to have a standalone thread where someone is actually happy. It makes a change for the incessant grumbling about firmware changes.
I’m very much with Dipper, the Atom HE and Active PMCs is amazingly good.
The Atom HE is a Naim product which really delivers. It’s versatile, it’s hifi but also musical, allows to hookup active speakers but also connect a power amp. It’s fast, supports many streaming services, looks nice, et cetera.
I treated my son to an Atom and some small B&W speakers a few years ago and he remains delighted with it. It’s a great place to be. My larger system here is finished and I claim the same contentment given that I have now run out of cash!
Refreshing to hear this and I’m sure your system is very good (it’s certainly good value).
Yes you could improve it but at considerable cost which wouldn’t appeal to me either so can understand your position.
I’m attempting to tell myself I’m content with my system too and no changes for last 9 months is a good sign.
Kick back and enjoy as you are doing - what’s not to like.
Hi Dipper and thanks for your OP. I suspect there’s lots of very contented owners amongst forum members, probably a majority in fact and with systems at all levels. I suspect they’re busy enjoying their music rather than posting here, but it’s good to be reminded occasionally of the huge enjoyment that our systems bring.
I have reached complete contentment with my system on several occasions, with change then prompted by other factors. E.g:
In 1992 my system comprised Thorens TD150/Rega RB300, Cambridge CD2, Musical Fidelity Preamp 2A, Musical Fidelity P170, IMF RSPM speakers. I was torally content: the following 20 years or so seeing just a change of CD player after about 8 years due to original one failing (the replacement had exactly the same character), and after about 15 years a change of power amp, not due to lack of contentment, simply seeing the next model up amp appearing for sale at an amazingly good price, so tempting me.
Then demise of my second CD player forced change, this time leading me into steaming, bringing a period of change and experimentation, then came a small inheritance from the person who introduced me to music so logically spent on something to do with music. The last two changes, last year and the year before, oddly were both a consequence of chance spotting secondhand things at prices too good to miss rather than through any lack of contentment, and now I am more content than ever before, not expecting to change anything until something fails.
I am very content with my system as it is. I know it could be improved on but only by spending a lot more and as it gives me lots of enjoyment I would rather spend my money on other things. I am sure at some point I will change something but for now I will stick with what I have.
I’ll join the contented list, very happy with my LP12/222/300/250 to Kudos 20’s set up.
But I’m only in the first 6 months of owning so the kit is still very new compared to some on this forum, I suppose I’m still very much in the honeymoon period and long may it continue.
