I’ve been happily using the Core as a server to my NSS333 and had downloaded all my albums to the internal hard-drive. Tonight, although the Core could see all my albums, when I pressed play nothing happened. I reset the app and switched the core off and back on and now it’s not showing any albums at all or recognising the local storage hard drive. Are you able to advise me please on what’s likely happened?
It was ex-dem with the hard-drive already installed. Does this point to a sudden hard-drive failure?
You could do worse than hold down the power button for 4-5 secs, till the Core disappears from the Naim app. Then unplug the mains lead, wait 5 mins and reconnect.
That should restart the Core and you can check what’s visible through the app. If everything looks OK, Backup immediately as a temporary recovery by a failing hard disk is not unknown.
Sorry Graeme, if it’s not seeing the internal SATA drive, then the drive’s probably kaput .
What size was the drive and was it an HDD (spinning disk) or SSD (solid state)?
And if you bought it recently from a dealer, ex-dem, usually less than a couple of years old, I’d be looking for a refund to cover the cost of a replacement storage device.
I think it’s likely to be the HDD that has died. I hope he has a backup! Anyway one of the best things about the Core is that it’s trivially easy to change to a new HDD or SSD if one has a backup.
Thanks both. Yes, hopeful of some recompense towards a new solid state drive.
I’d downloaded all my albums from a backup portable drive to the internal hard disk drive, so straightforward enough to do again. Fingers crossed that is the problem.
You can’t rescan unless there is a disc that it knows about to rescan! It’s done through the app (the option in settings is called “Rebuild Music database”)
