Looks like game set & series … 27 to win from 30

Pretty brutal attack by Malan and Buttler exposing the frailties of SA attack. Malan just looks so calm and confident, shots all around the wicket.

192 for 1 in less than 18 overs.

Did Malan realise the match was finished?

HappyListener has just appeared out of the pavilion with beer in hand to salute Dawid Malan - having been warned not to comment on the game in progress :grinning:

That was some knock and 99* wasn’t the right outcome.

Unusual for Rashid not to take a wicket, but 4 overs for 20 made such a difference, if he’d been smashed around as well the chase would have been even bigger, although the way Malan and Buttler went I think they could chased down pretty much anything.

When DM was selected for Test cricket, he looked a long way from having the potential as a strong limited overs player. Boy, has he worked hard and he simply flies along, gathering runs without drama - kinda like Michael Hussey in his prime.

I know, even when he’s hitting sixes he really doesn’t look like he’s scoring fast, he’s so in control.

It’s things like the over extra cover drive with opened-out wrists that sets him apart for me. I know the spread fields in T20 can flatter a batsman but his record is quite incredible.

If the Aussies beat India in the 20/20 series starting tonight England goes to number 1 (rank). That’ll give you guys a reason to cheer on Steve Smith and co.

Well England are indeed now top of the T20 and ODI rankings. Who would have imagined that!

Sadly their 2nd ODI against SA has also been postponed by Covid tests, this time of hotel staff. I wonder if we will get any of the matches now or the team will just come home.

Makes me appreciate the summer international season we had here without interruption.

Not quite messed up my Sunday as there is plenty to watch today as far as I’m concerned (biathlon and rugby), but I was looking forward to some cricket.
I wonder if there are any sanctions if any more games are postponed or lost?

I think SA cricket will lose a lot of broadcaster/advertiser money if the series is cancelled.

Estimated at 1.5 million Dollars, Rand or Sterling, I don’t recall

Big difference!

One Rand is about 5p.

CSA are in a lot of turmoil due to internal & other politics. However they have just secured a 4 year deal with an Indian pay TV company for 1.5 billion ZAR = aprx £73.4 million GBP

Coincidentally I just got off a call to a buddy in SA & it seems there’s finger pointing amongst themselves for failing to provide a bio-secure bubble in that it was local hotel staff that bought the virus into the hotel.

And PS, just confirmed, I’m house sitting for him in September (CV-19 travel permitted)
6 weeks in Hazyview, thats Kruger & Blyde River Canyon area … Yeah

The hotel is one I really dream of stopping at one day, spectacular views of Table Mountain .

The England-SA ODIs have been called off and England will fly home after the second test results on the two members of the party who have tested positive for COVID-19. They’ll be rescheduled at some point.

Just managed to secure tickets for the first three days of England v India at Trent Bridge this summer. Likely to be sold out pretty quickly now they are available to non-members. Birthday present to myself today!
