Criterium du Dauphine starting 8th June

I’m starting this thread as a heads up for those who could otherwise miss it.
It will in no way be of the astonishingly comprehensive standard set by Debs. She will be sticking to the Grand Tours - TDF next.
My main engagement is watching highlights on the tv and alerting to what coverage is available. For the UK coverage of the CdD, TNT3 is showing it live and ITV4 have a highlights programme at 7pm with the usual gang. It doesn’t look like there is anything on Quest so we will have to wait until the TDF to marvel at Orla’s wardrobe exploits!
Eurosport will be covering it for Europe and a list of broadcasting partners for other regions is on the web site at

That will be the place to go for the results and other info that Debs provides for the Grand Tours.
I won’t be posting any more on here unless there is something specific I want to say so hopefully others will chip and make this a collaborative effort.
Enjoy!

Just had a look at the start list - it’s a very strong field and hopefully will be a cracking race. It will be interesting to see how Jonas is given his lack of racing recently. I’d like to see Romain do well in his last road race. What is a surprise though is Julian Alaphilippe’s decision to race in the Tour de Suisse instead given the Dauphine is a bit of a specialty of his. I’m sure he was on the start list a few days ago.

That’s arguably a stronger line up the the Giro!
Debs - I very much appreciate the threads you run on the Grand Tours - I really didn’t want to push you into doing the same here. Having said that, you are already lighting up the thread but please don’t feel obliged or go to any trouble.

It’s an okay distraction, i’ll put up the start list when confirmed :+1:

Re Orla’s wardrobe, she must be earning serious money from the brands/retailers she lists on social media after each days program…

Ha! Definitely a clothes horse.

Stage 2 : Prémilhat - Issoire (204.6km)

After seeing the sprinters plans of a typical spring finish not happen yesterday, it looks like the same could happen again today, with the Côte du Château de Buron the launch pad of attack. It’s not particularly a very difficult or long climb for a 2nd category but half way up it does get progressively steeper, and this could be just enough for the sprinter trains fall apart and loose contact on the run-in.

Stage 3 : Brioude - Charantonnay (207.2km)

Another long hilly road race today, it’s a ripe course for a breakaway soon after the start, and there probably will be opportunist stage hunters, and KOM fight outs; however with the GC time deficits being so close a successful breakaway winner could take the yellow jersey so the GC team support members will be under pressure to reel in any breakaways. This is a stage to offer some interesting tactics but the main GC contenders will not want to overdo things today with tomorrow’s frantic time trail to come.

Garabit viaduct

A famous landmark at 41 km from the route.
(It’s a railway bridge so they won’t be riding over it)

Completed in 1884, the Garabit Viaduct was designed by Gustave Eiffel, the French civil engineer famed for the Eiffel Tower.

It was hard to guess what the GC teams’ plan was for yesterday given the strength of the breakaway. What a wonderful time trial finish from Ivan Romeo. Great to see the sheer joy on his face at the post race interview. The unpredictability of top class cycling at the minute makes for great viewing. ITV did a nice piece on Romain at the beginning as well. :+1:
