Pevensey is where I live. Hence saying a night out in Pevensey. It’s quite picture village really with a Castle and nice beach. Not too rough!
It made me laugh though thinking Pevensey is the Bronx!

Well spotted Sir. I have edited.
It’s not quite the Bronx, but has certain issues on certain nights. In fairness, nearby towns of Hastings and Bexhill have it worse
Many seaside areas on the south coast suffered with cheap hotels being turned into cheap hostel accommodation in the 1970s and 80s - which left some social problems. I suspect maybe similar to some towns on French north coast ?
This is so true.
Pete’s ‘With friends. ’ made me laugh as they can often lead you into harmless trouble especially if you fall over after a good night out. I’m sure most of us have occasionally done so (apologies to those who haven’t experienced that little gift and are of a more sober disposition - I’m not a hooligan, honest guv)!
You have one life, so live it. No idea who said this, but Dan is the very essence of that statement.
My rugby friends call them U.D.Is. Unidentified Drinking Injuries
Dan your spot on after the initial hit of bad news and taking it in you have 2 choices. 1 you can let it consume you or 2 realise that regardless you have to just get on your bike and make the best of it. There’s always someone worse off.
You are spot on Pete.
We are fighting this fight Pete. We’ve got your back on the forum. And I know you’ve all got mine.
I will have had 3 ops, chemoradiotherapy and chemotherapy over 2 years. But what’s the option?
Live to fight another day. So my phrase of the day is everday above ground is a good one!
Maybe it was always the treatment plan Pete and they didn’t convey it fully to you?
Just thinking that if it would be a standard part of the plan you’ve done well with to date, then it’s actually not a setback just carry on as intended if that makes sense, it’s a subtle difference but if they’d planned this all along it’s not a negative.
Yes.
It’s more where there’s no job anymore, like towns in North France where the mines have closed in the 60’s or 70’s, i don’t remember.
But more generally, all areas around the big towns, specially Marseilles, Grenoble, Lyon…
Great film/films.
Thinking of Sly I have a new episode of Tulsa Kings to watch - @Dan_M - superb mafia gang type series on Paramount+ which just makes me smile every week I see a new episode. Lovable but honourable rogues so to speak.
There’s some really good stuff on there including the Costner ‘Yellowstone’ series, and especially the Taylor Sheridan prequels which are just gritty about life struggles. If you enjoy (or don’t) the odd Western they are great viewing.
No I was told several weeks ago that there’d be maintenance to try and keep me in remission but I guess it’s that now a fact.
But I’ve come to terms with it (only this morning after reading this thread).
I’ve not seen that on the tourist brochures.
Really sorry to hear that, I’ve always loved visiting France, generally for 5/6 Nations Rugby and although venues changed I’ve never had a bad experience apart from it once being too cold!
I’ve watched Tulsa King and am into tough guy movies.
Love westerns like Once Upon A Time in the West and Clint Eastwood movies.
These men are role models for me. I see it important to be resilient and brave in life.
These films also have an amusing side and it’s important to laugh in life !
I enjoyed the Marseille series with Gerard Depardieu. It shows alot of Marseille as being the Bronx and the crime, violence and drug problems.
Appreciate it may not have been what you needed to hear, but equally most of us here are probably closing in on older age and beyond any number of more chronic issues including yours (consider it as such maybe???) we simply don’t know what’s around the corner.
So many other things could potentially ‘see you off’ without warning before the ongoing treatments for the current problem have finished. They probably won’t but it’s something I increasingly bear in mind due to my own health issues.
Hope that makes sense.
Its pretty much the same as any of the sink estates in the UK. Areas where the poor are marginalised and pretty much left to their own devices. Easier to control that way when you know where the crims all are. I have driven through the Angoulême equivalent. Speed bumps on every road entry and exit point and not a place to stop and ask the way.
No it does my oncologist has often said you could just as easily get hit by a bus this afternoon. No body really knows what’s around the corner. I’m almost 70 and lived a charmed life.
I guess what knocked me around yesterday was the reality that barring that bus I know what’s going to take me out. There’s no surprise or spontaneity.
