Dan's thread

I have tried non alcoholic beers and wines before. Some of the beers are quite good. I found the wines terrible.

I am not a Guiness fan. I am very happy without any alcohol and don’t need a non alcoholic beer or wine.

I think being clean for 3 months will help. Maybe I will enjoy it and go longer! Will see what happens. The focus is one step at a time and getting fit for next operation now.

Couple of movie recommendations for you if you like Clint Eastwood/Westerns:

In a Valley of Violence
3:10 to Yuma
Logan

You’ve probably no doubt seen Gran Torino; but it is a fantastic movie if you have not.

Logan is loosely based around the 1953 movie Shane is also featured in the movie itself. It remains one of my favourite movies ever. It is very dark for a superhero movie and there is even a black and white version called Logan Noir. Highly recommend.

Why not make life even easier by leaving them on all the time & just removing them once every three months or so… whether they need washing or not?

It is very clearly based on Shane , but with a strong element of The Wild Bunch .

A very good film

Maybe the best Sam Peckinpah movie.

Such a shame he returned in the new Deadpool movie. I refuse to watch it…how can you make such a definitive and special ending to his character like that and then come back. I know the answer is money; but it just feels like a complete sell-out and I think it devalues what went before it.

I watched the Days of Future Past yesterday and that is another fantastic film. Michael Fassbender is excellent as a baddie! I think he is great in Prometheus and Alien Convenant too (completely misunderstood movies IMO).

You don’t like chocolates of your belgian neighbours ? Shame on you.

O dear! I worked for quite a few companies in Brussels and at one bank (Fortis it was back in the days) there was a guy and not a single day passed without him mentioning that Belgian chocolate was better than Swiss or German chocolate!

Rochefort 10 is my favourite Belgian beer by the way.

This one was my favourite at that time. Now it’s more Corona 0 degrees.

And yes, the Rochefort is a super choice. At 11,3 % the beer deserves time and a zen approach to be softly tasted and appreciated.
In your terms, it’ s a real “organ” beer.

I think the conversation may have drifted from Dan’s Thread to all the things Dan can’t have

Indeed Ian,

It’s always the way, you tell everyone you’re not drinking. And then they say “Hey Dan, let’s go to the pub. You can have a few!”

C’est la vie!

I am enjoying orange squash as a treat this evening

Unfortunately beer is rarely good for our organ.

Can be bad for the liver too.

I’ve had a couple of beers and 2 glasses of wine since getting out and its actually helped me sleep. My doctor did say it was ok but only in moderation and to stop if I had any side effects.

I mean our effectiveness in some exercise….will not clarify more.

I think it’s a bit different with liver surgery. The normal advice is no alcohol for 3 months after surgery.

When havind some of my other treatments there was no suggestion that I couldn’t have a drink.

I don’t miss it at the moment and I think in my case it’s best to abstain for 3 months. Especially with further surgery due soon.

They only removed 10% of my liver. It has not affected my liver function. I just want to remain clean and give myself the best chances!

If it’s any consolation I’m certainly not enjoying it as much as I did before.
