DBPoweramp rips problem

Ripped some tracks today and found something strange in that the ripped tracks were all ‘brighter’ and more ‘splashy’ than CD originals.

Lossless flac files.

I burned a CD and dragged to usb too, both the same. Never had this issue before.

I know it sounds weird but defo. not right.

Anyone got any ideas??

I’ve not noticed or experienced the SQ changes myself, that said I’ve not ripped any CD’s since the last R2024-11-4 release.

I advise to post the question on the dBpoweramp forum,

I didn’t know there was such a thing!

Bet it’s not as nice as ours.

Could it be the latest Firmware update issue? How do previous rips sound?

Not had an issue before, I don’t rip very often, last time a few months back.

This was distinctly noticeable though as I was making up a compilation CD so, when I put the new CD on to check it out, I could tell something was off right away.

Put ripped playlist on a USB in case it was something to do with the blank CD (Lord knows how) or the CD writing but same as. Re-ripped the tracks, same again. Very odd.

Old CD? All CD:s?

A (very) long shot.

Early CD:s where sometimes mastered with pre-emphasis (as a noise reduction technique. they increased the treble on a CD, and the CD player would lower the treble back), this is not always handled by rip-software.

There are lists of affected CD, just search for ‘CD pre-emphasis’ on Google.

Ah, that actually could be it. I have never heard of that issue but the source CD’s are eighties Springsteens, Fagen and a few others. And it is a splashy treble issue. Interesting. I’ll look it up. Would prove that not all rips are equal!

Amazing, thank you.

Edit: And the two main culprits, Darkness… and Born to Run, are on the list. Well done! :slightly_smiling_face:

Is there a method to get round this in Dbp?

It’s under the Illustrate name, the cmpy that develop dBpoweramp, Asset UNpN and others.
Headed up by the owner (known as Spoon) plus others.

Not like our forum, no friendly banter or chat rooms, no thread drifting, just straight Q&A.
