dCS Bartok as a one box solution

An all Naim system definitely does something to third party sources It definitely infuses the Naim magic and PRAT.

As I said, the Rossini and KDSM were both connected to an SN2.
As for all Naim magic, it’s your opinion. I had the 252 before and prefer much more my ear 912 pre. And for me prat is essential…

I have had a Nait5, 282,252, and now (soon to be DR’d) 552
Imho (and quite a few others) the 252 is a weak link in the Naim preamp lineup. You reaction to it is understandable - it does not major on Naim goodness.

I’m not quite sure a SN2 can properly be used to demo two TOTL sources like a KDSM and Rossini

I agree that SN2 is not the best to have a good impression on these both sources.
As to the pre, mine costs 11k, has a wonderful phono inside , and sounds better than 252 on 250 dr for me.
So to have better, a Nac 552 and same quality phono would costs me near 28k in total!

The 252 was my least favorite Naim black box of all the ones I have owned

I have only ever heard the rossini in its 2.0 firmware and its apparently a big difference to the 1.0. I believe the 2.0 is from the vivaldi range and for me it was a revelation when i first heard it, as i was looking for an upgrade over my NDS and wasn’t that impressed with what i had heard until i tried the DCS Bartok and then rossini & clock.

For me it has all the best bits off the nd555 and chord dave.

Well first attempt at a rack re arrange, cant say it will stay like this, but at least the rossini is off the floor and yes it’s a big bugger with the clock

Thanks Dunc - that is cracking good system.
Must be great fun pressing play of an evening.

Please dial up the LP ‘Notes on Ornette’ by Paul Bley and see how it copes with that if you want to hear a superb jazz trio who are enjoying each others company!

Nice setup Dunc.
Somehow you should try to get the 552 on the top with some air around it. You might like what you find :grinning:

Looks lovely Dunc…

Oh and hi Gregg :grinning:

Hi Mark
I have not bothered you as I assume you have been busy the last month testing out a new toy

I am on this thread because I bought myself a 60th bday present - a Bartok. It will not be replacing the Linn DS in the main system - it will be strictly for headphone listening.
The main system is down as Chris W has both units in for recap and DR. In the end I sent the 500 in for work as well.

How is it going?

Lovely Dunc, lovely.

Best regards, BF

I have had the 552 on top for years and right now i can’t do that as i would need longer legs on a shelf, easy enough for me to sort, but right now with what i have that was about the best i could do, but as i said its bound to get moved about as i fine tune it

Got it
An explanation please. A look at the DCS website shows a stand alone DAC and a DAC/CD player.
Does the DAC have streaming functions and ROON capabilities. Do most people buy the DAC or DAC/CD player?

Hi @Dunc.
Great system.Forgot which speakers your using.
Also it seems you don’t have the record bank of buttoned muted on the 552 or am I not seeing it

Yes it does, it can stream, roon, mqa, itdoes all sorts
