Death Row by Chris Stapleton members thoughts on vocal quality?

Without going into anymore detail would any members like to share their opinion of the vocal quality of this track, I have an issue just trying to work through it, many thanks in advance .

I like that track very much . Have the high rez Qobuz and the voice sounds very good to me.

Tried the Tidal 16/44.1 just now and his voice is clear as a bell.

Can’t say I like the vocals.

Sounds like the musician are close by, with the vocalist shouting from a distance away.

Are you on 3.10.1 firmware for Nd5xs2? Do you hear some sibilance, harschness?

Sorry for the late response, from start to finish of the track the vocals are a mess, harsh, edgy full of sibilance.
To answer your question regarding the update we are on the latest version and I woe the day I downloaded it, system has always been on the edge at times but now the latest firmware has totally tipped it over the edge, unless the track is really well recorded.

I guess you are following the thread about it. What a mess .

Yes on both counts😉

Listening to Chris Stapleton’s Death Row song via Qobuz (96/24) and find no issues with his vocals or music.

I have had no problems with the any of the software updates.

System: XPS DR > NDX 2 > Hi-Line > SuperCap DR > NAC 282 > NAP 250 DR > NAC A5 > ProAc D30RS – also: C2960C-8PC-L Cisco Catalyst Switch, English Electric 8Switch.

I use a fifth generation iPad and a iPhone 8 with the Naim App to play the music.

All I can say is you are very fortunate I wish I could say the same.
Disappointed would be an understatement, after nearly 3 years of putting together my system I can’t believe it can sound like it does at the moment.

Sounds fine to me, now giving the whole album a listen (Tidal Connect 24/96). Using a Nova with latest firmware and AQ Power cable → Witch Hat N2 cables → Spendor A7 speakers. A basic ethernet cable attached to a basic switch (D-Link).

Glad your system sounds okay mine did until the new firmware update , it’s just not tolerant of any edge in a recording anymore, just hopeful that Naim will sort this issue out.

NDX 2 + XPS-DR & SN3 + HCDR here. From Qobuz → Roon, Chris sounds superb with no sibilance at all.

Hopefully soon I may experience the same result as everyone else, if not I guess it’s time to take up golf😂.

Buy a Primare NP5/ifi power supply for £600, sell the Naim streamer for £1500.

Problem solved and money to buy golf clubs.

On ND555 with current firmware, via Qobuz, the vocal sounds fine to me. I have had problems with higher frequencies, as for example female vocals and violins, but not to the extent that some have.

Streaming through headphones through non-naim gear. Sounds fantastic. Very spacy, great depth in the recording and no harshness at all.

Sound fantastic. Sounds like he’s singing/recording in a large room.

I’m not hearing that - vocals sound clear, sharp and no sibilance. Sounds like a great recording. If anything the vocals are a tad back in the mix.
