I can’t link my Mu-so to my Naim app. I can play Spotify on the mu-so. However each time I try to link to the Mu-so in the app it searches for it but then can’t find it. I have turned all of the bits of the system on and off including the router. I have reset the Mu-so. The one thing that I have changed is my mobile phone.
Is your Mu-So on wi-fi or Ethernet? If on wi-fi, can you try Ethernet at least for testing purposes?
Also, is it a Mu-So or a Mu-So 2?
Also what mobile phone are you using? iPhone? Android?
Hi. I have two Mu-so 2 and am trying to connect to wifi. I don’t have an ethernet connection. My phone is an iPhone 16. Everything was working with my last phone which was an iPhone 15. The speaker connects to the wifi network but then when the app tries to detect it it just says ‘searching for your Mu-so’ and then says ‘an unexpected error occurred’. I don’t think it is wifi strength as everything else works just fine.
I can report on an issue I had with my NetGear Orbi mesh router and a Muso QB2. For some reason the QB decided on the 2.4MHz channel while my iPhone was on 5 MHz. The Orbi sees those as a single network, but the Muso sees them as separate networks. I couldn’t get through setup. I solved it by temporarily hooking up my QB2 via Ethernet. It still worked after that when I removed the cable.
I read a lot of posts here from British forum members (not surprisingly) who seem to have different terminology (or maybe different hardware) than I do in the US, so I’ll simply suggest that you check the administrative web page for your router to see if this might be the problem.
By the way, is this true for both of your MuSos?
Thank you for all of your ideas. I also reached out to Naim support. They gave me the following instructions - which I followed - and it worked!
We recommend checking the following smartphone settings to ensure they are correct. Once done, reboot the router, phone, and unit for a few minutes. Then, attempt to re-add the unit to the app. Please let us know if it is still failing to add as a new device after these steps.
On your Phone or Tablet, please go to:
- Settings > Privacy > Location Services
- Ensure that Location Services are enabled. This setting is needed for your network to find devices.
2.(For Android devices, this may be found under individual app settings for the Focal Naim app or in a separate network tab within your phone’s settings, depending on the make and model.)*
- Settings > Privacy > Local Network
- Make sure the Naim App is enabled (green). If it’s already green, toggle it off (grey) and then back on. This refreshes the network command.
4.(For Android, look under individual app settings or network settings for the Focal Naim app, based on your phone’s layout.)*
- Settings > Wi-Fi > Select Your Network
- In your Wi-Fi settings, tap the network you’re connected to (with a checkmark beside it). Find the “Private Wi-Fi Address” toggle and turn it off.
6.(On Android, this may be called “Private MAC Address” or “Randomized MAC Address” and is typically located under Advanced Wi-Fi settings for the saved network.)*
After adjusting these settings, please restart the Naim App, your unit, and your router.
