Direct Drive Turntables

In my experience the prevalence of Technics deck and the sheer size of the Panasonic global support footprint makes SL1200 servicing, both official and unofficial, easier than just about any deck out there.

In general, their first service is around the 30+ year mark and involves a dab of oil and a quick check on the power supply caps and then done.

I’ll get both of mine booked in, I might just still be around to hear the improvements ….

Good day, yes I have been using Technics Turntables for over 40 years, my first unit was an original entry level SL-2000 in 1978… I had that unit for many years. I later tried a Project TT Carbon model for a couple of years and sold it in 2019. I purchased one of the very first Technics SL-1500c in Toronto and waited 6 months for the unit to be delivered. I tested the unit with both the NAIM Uniti Atom and the Nova. Decided on the Nova and haven’t looked back. I paired the Technics with the Lehmann Audio Black cube Phono pre-amp and the Uniti Nova and the setup sounds great. I did upgrade the phono cartridge to Ortofon 2M blue from the standard Red, what a difference.

I have the SL1500c with my Naim 150/122 and Marantz CD player, i’m very pleased with the sound for the price. The turntable is good out of the box but can be upgraded with better cartridges and all sorts if think if so wish. I have not because to my ears it sounds good.

Technics remove from box , play records , leave to your children

I to have a new 1500c comming from a dissapointing Rega P3 50 th anniversary with Exact mm. The 1500c is a Joy to use and the internal phono pre with suppplied 2mred sounds better than with external Rega fono or Wiim ultra internal phonopre.

I have a 52/300 Naim system with some Shahinian Arcs on the end and a Garrard 401 to play the vinyl stuff. It’s mounted in a Loricraft plinth and uses a Naim Aro with a Dynavector cartridge. It really does sound good and is ultra reliable.

Lovely, be great to see a picture on show us your turntable thread

Have you consider another cartridge rather than the bundled 2M Red ?

Personally I find this cartridge a terrible waste of time and nearly everything else win, even its a cheaper solution. A 1500C can deliver with a much better cartridge solution. I understand Technics need a cartridge bundle solution, but IMO they should stick to VM95C (or no cartridge)

The 1500c with 2mred sounds fine to me.

That’s all that matters.

Nice turntable.

Some tone arm damping I experimented with. Rubber band and rings. I did, at the time weigh it all and it added a modicum to the front of the tonearm, 0.2 grammes or similar.

I never took them off as the deck sounds brilliant but because it would take perhaps a minute to take it all off a comparison would be pointless so stay they did

A big thank you to everyone for all the good advice and encouragement. After a lot of thought and an excellent Black Friday deal I’m now the owner of an SL1300G.

Initial impressions are very positive, it has a very different presentation to the Rega P8 which it replaced even though the cartridge has remained the same..

It simply gets on with the job which is exactly what I wanted ! :musical_notes:

Nice system - not too dissimilar to mine. I love my Technics TT :ok_hand:

Very nice, congrats. I was really surprised at how different the presentation of a Technics was to a Rega (I’ve got two 1210GR2’s and Rega RP6 and P3).

In isolation they all sound great, just how the priorities of the sound is so different, totally get the technology approach is different but even so.
