For almost a year now I have problems with my Muso 1 and internet radio.
Every radio station is plagued with frequent dropouts, I have to restart the stream again and again.
So I was happy to receive a mail that vtuner was replaced with something else and followed the instructions to re-apply my favorite stations.
Unfortunately the problems are still exactly the same, even with the Naim stations
If this doesn’t get solved I will have to sell my Muso because it gets really annoying.
Is your muso using wifi or a cable? If it’s WiFi, try a cable. The first generation muso has quite weak wifi.
There hasn’t been as far as I’m aware an update for the Muso V1 to replace Vtuner.
As @HungryHalibut mentioned are you using Wi-Fi?
That’s right. The gen 1 muso and Qb software update is not ready yet, but it is planned apparently.
I think my Qb has had the update. I went through the process of reallocating stored presets and appears to work in the same way as others describe for other products.
The gen 1 firmware hasn’t been released yet, so all you have done, unless you have a gen 2 Qb, is restore your old favourites. Of course the gen 2 muso and Qb firmware has been released.
It is cable and I have a reliable internet connection.
It also started around the same time as the latest firmware update (2.0).
That is strange. Have you tried doing a full reset on the muso, by pressing the reset button with the end of a paper clip? The other thing is to ensure that your phone is on the same network as the router. If you have two routers both giving out IP addresses, everything gets in a muddle.
Just to confirm that the update for the first generation Musos is not yet released and my QB1 is on 2.0. My Muso2 has been updated. I did originally have some problems with my QB1 which is connected via wifi and the difficulties were caused by the kind of issues that HH describes. Apart from my BT router I was using an Apple Airport Extreme with an Express as an extender. I think that was causing a muddle for the QB and since I disconnected the Apple wifi and just use the BT router plus a BT disc extender, the connection has been robust apart from the occasional disconnection.
Ok, thanks everybody for the replies.
The mail did not mention a firmware update, only an app update.
We will wait then, fingers crossed.
Any news about that ‘pending’ update ?
I really don’t like it that Muso I users are left in the cold.
My Muso should not be outdated after 7 years or so.
Is it outdated (no internet radio anymore) or you cannot have new FW? If the latter, seems typical, as often new FW requires some processing stuff that older equipment cannot handle (said as an ignoramus!).
Make your selection from ‘Naim’s Choice’ after deleting your old selections. I have MuSo Gen 1 and radio works fine after doing this.
Thanks but I already tried that, makes no difference, with the new stations, Naim or not, the stream is also interrupted.
Sorry, I don’t know what you mean with ‘FW’.
I just want that promised software update that is supposed to solve my problem.
To be honest, when you have problems with all and any internet radio stations, that’s likely not a vTuner specific problem - by all the intermittent problems they have, the streams have been working in principle for most people most of the time.
Hence, I’m not sure a switch to the new Naim internet radio service will actually help you, if there’s another problem. (Though I don’t know what it could be, if you have the Muso cabled to your router and have good internet connection.)
Have you tried using cable? Wifi connection on Gen 1 isn’t so good. Full factory reset using paperclip if this doesn’t bring results,
Sometimes internet routers may not behave even though they appear to provide an apparent good connection.
Have you updated the router firmware to latest available ?
Have you recently rebooted the router ?
Try your muso at a friend‘s house or dealers network
( in a previous life I have worked on >500 routers)
On a more general point … radio station directory services like vTuner, Airable, TuneIn and radio.net, provide a URL which, directly or indirectly, links to the broadcaster’s stream.
They do not act as a permanent proxy between the player and the stream - so if a station stream starts playing and then stops or has breakups it is unlikely to be the fault of the stream directory service provider unless … they provided a stream link that is known to cause problems for the player. For example, some Roon devices have problems with HLS (they start at the beginning of the stream which could be hours before current time) or they might not have the required codec installed (but they the stream would probably not be heard at all).
So problems during play are more likely to be a local networking problem or a fundamental problem with the player and the stream type. Sharing which streams cause problems would allow others to test the same one and report if it works on their devices so that setups could be compared.
Incidentally I currently have a Sonos system at my house, 0 problems with it during the last 3 weeks.
The Sonos is connected via wifi, the Naim via cable.
So I doubt if it is a network problem.
