Dogs bollocks is uk colloquial for amazing/brilliant etc… which I guess you already know
It sounds amazing!
Honestly the SN2 isn’t a million miles behind… but more bass with better control, improved mids, better soundstage, very very clear and wonderfully cohesive if perhaps a little warm. Hearing piano / guitar notes reverberate off into nothing…
Whilst a pre might add something it isn’t missing anything for me… a distinct step up from the SN2 in all areas, although no clear daylight between them
It’s made me realise what a cracking amp the SN2 actually is!
Looking forward to bringing the Vitus integrated in for a comparison!
Enjoy! Your experience shows it’s always good to try things for yourself and make up your own mind. I used to have an SN2 based system and never thought I was missing anything, but when I added a preamp, I discovered that I was. But, and it’s a big but, can I really say that I enjoy music more overall because of better resolution? I’m not sure I can. As you move up the ladder the balancing act of source, amp speakers seems to become ever more precarious. I’ve got a balance that pleases me now and fits my room, but my experience has made me realise that there is more than one way to crack this particular nut. Good luck!
Vitus in the mix. Prefer the understated look vs the pass. Also sounds amazing
Now considering selling the 333 … only had it 3 months! - and just going one box, as the built in streamer seems to be the match of the 333 although there are some fairly subtle - to my ears - differences
I did a back to back of the Gryphon 300 with some Burmester and Chord seperates and loved it. then did a 120 vs 300 and again much prefferred the 300.
I never got as far as getting the Gryphon to my house for a demo though: I’ve got an amazing offer on the Vitus ex demo inc streamer card. The streamer/DAC was a 4k option… so thinking of the saving on the screen/case, the power supply etc… I’d imagine it would be something like 7k standalone, so definitely a similar price point to the naim 333
If it the same dac / streamer that you can add to the amp that they use for the sia030, then it’s certainly going to be good.
I heard the slot in dac board on the sia030 and was very impressed with it, especially when you considered the cost and the simplicity off it all.
In the sia030 it already had a separate power rail just for the dac and was on par with the separate vitus dac costing around £12k i believe, but i never got to hear that, and just going by what the dealer said.
But certainly a great sounding all in one box and i am sure you are also enjoying your vitus one box.
Well my lovely sia030 already has the masterpiece’s regulated power supply, output stages, and volume.
That’s probably why the sia030 is such an excellent amp, and great value.
If you have a gathering of 3 or more people in your home, do you make your guests keep a metre or two apart from each other in case they fall through the floor?
the lower input imp of the typical poweramp place a bigger load on the DAC PSU vs. the typical pre-input. Add a good volume control to this and it will sound worse. I’ve tried both the Holo+preamp-bosrd and Rockna and with even a simple pre it was preferred.
333 / 332 into 350s didn’t float my boat - I think this was partially due to the speakers - and overpriced IMO. Don’t want 4 shelves and loads of wires either.
I’ve been listening for a few days now, the Vitus streamer is on a par sound quality wise… and the ex demo price is so good… there’s no point keeping the 333 as an ornament.
Naim prices go up next week so don’t suppose I’ll lose too much.
