Hi, I understand that the nova line “digitizes” the analog inputs as to be able to hear the stream on other UNITI line products.
I question that arrised for me was, what happens when I AV/bypass and you can’t even control the volume? (using the NAIM UNITI as an amplifier) does the signal get digitized?
It sounds wonderful and I’m very happy, but am curious to know what happens to the signal on the way.
I’ve also understood the design, that the only way towards the analoge amp section (both internal power amp and pre-/sub-out) is through the DAC.
As you note, this allows multi-room on analogue inputs. And they can likely save the analogue circuitry from the analogue-in to the preamp; doing all input switching/routing via the digital parts. (Reusing the electronics for the digital and streaming sources.)
I think, the NSC222 than has a separate analogue path (and looses the multi-room feature on those inputs).
Remember that done properly digitising and converting back to analogue does not in itself make any audible difference to the sound, especially when the two converters are matched as they would be in this sort of circumstance. As indicated by multiple people on this forum it doesn’t take away the vinyl character if vinyl is played through it.
