One of the great Irish folk singers, Dolores Keane, has died. She was a founder member of one of the great folk bands De Danann and had a fine solo career, in the folk tradition and also jazz and blues style. She had a powerful haunting voice and could “feel” a song. Her recording of Paul Brady’s ”The Island” is chillingly beautiful.
I saw her with De Danann after she rejoined in the mid-‘80s and a few times solo, never less than compelling.
RIP Dolores
