Hi
i have installed Audirvana on my M1Macbook.
Like the idea of a server Software running on the Mac - the app is very good. looks nice.
I have enabled in Mac settings the control option.
BUT: I can not use the toggle bar when NDS or Qute are selected. Works with ND5XS2, but not with the legacy streamers. What have I done wrong?
First sound impression - a bit brighter and more transparent with Audirvana but less involving ;).
Nevertheless - want to use it and have a good trial period!
I cannot toggle either. I remember in the past that I could so might be setting related in Audirvana but I didnāt spend time trying to solve it.
I never found Audirvana less involving but we might have different taste in what good music presentation is where no opinion is wrong Iāve never compared NDS with local files either, only Tidal native streaming vs Audirvana Tidal hi-res streaming.
Thanks - with sound quality I have no final result yet. And qobuz again is also fine
But without the option to toggle it is bad. Like that!
We search did not help.
And with new naim streamer I am able to toggle!
I have asked about it on this forum before and believe some said it worked for them. I donāt remember what was said though Toogle works with Lindemann Bridge II so itās a compatibility issue somewhere between NDS and Audirvana. @simon.pepper might know more?
I believe the comparison most talks about is native streaming vs streaming with Audirvana when you read about it. NDS streaming local files is a different thing. That is what it was made for and the streaming was a late fix.
Iāve tried Audirvana a few times the last with the Core Player on Linux with my NDS. Had a few problems with local streaming but the main issue was with radioā¦just couldnāt get it to play consistently.
I thought the SQ was pretty good and perhaps better than Roon but not as stable
@drago@Blackbird Never played about with Audirvana. Always been a Roon user, since 2015 and the 1st Beta. Once I was able to get a UPnP feed into the NDS from Roon, with the SonoreUPnP bridge running on the UltraRendu, I was done.
I have compared between UPnP from Asset UPnP server (controlled by the Naim App) and UPnP from the SonoreUPnP (controlled by Roon) to establish I am getting the same, if not better.
I have also compared Roon ā UltraRendu ā XMOS USB S/PDIF convertor ā NDS digital input (very similar to the Limetree Network Bridge approach, just 2 boxes but probably the same convertor chips to S/PDIF) and this wasnāt quite as good as the UPnP input.
I never wanted, or want any part of my HiFi playback running on a laptop/desktop that has to be on, or in the Lounge. Just an iPad for control, with the Roon server (a dedicated NUC running ROCK) upstairs in the Study with the NAS units isolated by the EtherREGEN switch, with the NDS on the Port B output.
The toggle bar is something that I use very rarely. Only when I am comparing certain things (streaming services, settings, or set ups), and thatās what I guess you are doing right now. So understandable that you think this is annoying. What @BrendanD means I think is that in general itās killing the experience when just sitting back and listening to the music. And I can relate to that as well.
Now personally I do not have any experience with the NDS, so I cannot elaborate on difference in sound regarding that device. Same goes for the ND555. I think itās very well possible that AudirvÄna would be a nice experience with the latter especially with the current firmware. But that may ofcourse be different when the new firmware arrives. And your āearsā may well like other options.
From my perspective (ND5 XS 2 - Nait1 - Spendor Classic 4/5) I feel that AudirvÄna has always provided a more warm āanalogā sound than streaming with the Naim app (mostly Qobuz, but also local files) or with the native Qobuz app. That goes for Tidal as well.
And I also changed the OS on the laptop. The Linux version sounds better than the Windows version. I think that the fact that on Linux there almost isnāt CPU usage after buffering makes for less noise.
@simon.pepper Thatās something thatās very well to achieve with AudirvÄna as well. My laptop on which AudirvÄna is running is not near the audio set up, connected by cable to the network (as is the ND5 XS 2) and I use the AudirvÄna Remote app for control (which is mandatory for the Linux Core Player).
Qobuz settings are fairly simple.
Audirvana settings are fairly rich. I will share as of next wednesday when I am back home.
I use an IPad as interface.
I used Audirvana for a couple years but was never convinced it wasnāt doing something with the stream. It sounded so very different from other transports and had a super smooth sound with exaggerated separation whereas other transports didnāt do this.
And the user I gave Audirvana access to the NAS with had write privileges and Audirvana went and did something to every audio file in my library. Probably benign tagging but it pushed my buttons and really pissed me off. All the audio files were registered and signed so right after adding Audirvana I got tens of thousands of signature failure check notifications. I should have given it a less privileged user.
Finally, the Audirvana app was just too buggy. It drove me crazy. I wanted to chuck my phone more than once. I was very happy to get rid of it and back to the Naim app and the Volumo web app.
My toggle bar is present but not active i.e. I cannot drag and drop later or earlier in the track.
Maybe then you do not call it a toggle bar ⦠?
Cheers
