Dullness to sound - service?

Hi, I have a 282/250 (dr’ed couple of yrs ago at Naim) and Hicap dr from 2016. I’ve noticed recently the sq sounds like the higher frequencies are a bit rolled off. I might be imagining it, but don’t think I am. I can still hear the tweeters are working, so don’t think it’s a connection issue. It just doesn’t sound as airy as usual. I don’t know exactly how old the 282 is, but bought it S/H. Does that sound like it may be in need of a service? Thanks in advance!

Alternatively might your ears need a service? (Serious question!)

My understanding is that if you email Naim with the serial number of your NAC282, they will be able to tell you when it was made.

A service of my 13 yo Naim preamp brought my system back to life.

Shut the system down and clean the DIN´s and XLR by plugging them in and out about ten times.

Not connected out of phase are you? Easy to get mixed up if using Naim plugs and wrong cable run on wrong speaker, and vice versa.

You don’t mention your age, only the Naim age. A couple of years ago at age 67 I noticed my left speaker sounded dull in the main room. I then noticed the left speaker in the study sounded dull. Coincidence that both had failed at the same time?
Went to my GP and for the first time in my life I had the embarrassment of old age earwax syringed.
Speakers work fine now.

Thanks all. Will psyche myself up to get the 282 out from shelf (bit of a pfaff) and look at serial number at the weekend. Don’t think it’s my ears as haven’t noticed it on other stereos!

Don’t forget unless they are rather unusual speakers there will be a cross-over and they will have capacitors in them on the tweeter circuit too and if they are old, they may be at fault as much as anything else.
