Can the NAC 282 run solely with the supplied NAPSC or is a further power supply required?

I have looked at the manual but for not specifically answer the above, at least not in clear language.

No, you need either a hicap or supercap.

An additional external power supply is optional, depending on which Naim NAP power amplifier you use. Naim power amps NAP 155 and 200 can power the 282 such that you don’t need a HiCap or SuperCap etc.:

Performance upgradable with FlatCap XS, HiCap or SuperCap power supply; can also be powered from the preamp inputs of the NAP 155 XS or NAP 200 power amplifier
